Audience Member Vaanam - 9/10. Krish remade his hit telugu film Vedam in tamil as Vaanam. Though this remake became a hit in the box office, its surprisingly not mentioned as much as it should when looking back at movie from around that time. With a big cast (Silambarasan, Bharath, Anushka Shetty, Prakash Raj, Santhanam, and Saranya Ponvannan to just highlight a few) and some really amazing music from Yuvan Shankar Raja, its really strange to me that a hit film like this has gone almost forgotten. It makes a bit sense in retrospect, as this was the first project Simbu did right after Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaya, and Anushka was just coming off of the success of Singam. Its an extremely beautiful film in story and meaning, emphasizing on the elements of life and what it means to sacrifice for the greater good. Simply theres not a lot of movies that deal with an #anthology structure during that era of film. Today, ironically, anthologies are the go to mechanism in order to compensate the demand of multi starrers. This film did a perfect job of uniting these stars and creating stories that would blend together in the culminating last portions of the film. The music really helps spell out the emotions and situations the characters are in. The angst, pain, drive, and happiness are spelled out beautifully through the songs and visuals. Its a damn shame that Simbu didn't continue doing dramatic work like this and VTV in the years that followed. He's a great actor when he attempts to be, and theres scenes in this film that show the range that he is fully capable of. Anushka's performance as the fiery and determined brothel worker is some of her best acting in her career as well. Its one of my favourite films from the 2010 decade, and its a movie that needs to be remembered a lot more! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member A decent flick, even though it had some draggings in the first half. But second half is pure patriotism. Prakash Raj, Simbhu and Bharat did a decnt job with this movie. And really liked the theme song of this movie by Yuvan Shankar Raja. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Awesome movie. Best movie of 2011. Dont miss it. This movie will blow u away. must watch. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Audience Member The only thing good in this movie is Simbu..then you must think how bad the other parts will be HA HA Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member The movie is fast from start to finish. Simbu's performance and Santhanam's comedy are great. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Great to see a Tamil movie with a social conscience and a good script. Also it reaffirms the faith that humanity is not a lost cause, it still exists. A must see movie, with no heroism involved...not much anyway.
