Audience Member Watching this film made me worry a bit about my own future as a final-year student. 😨 The timelapse and continuation scene with the banana plant was really well done, and there’s a scene where students named Abdul Kalam and Vivekananda get punished by a teacher right in front of a portrait of Gandhi - nonviolence reference. 🤣 The way the film captures the little details of childhood is top-notch, although it has a few cliched moments here and there. Watching the students, it felt like maybe they looked a bit older than 10th-grade students, but it still works fine. One thing I love about the Malayalam film industry is how they make you feel what’s happening on screen, like you’re part of it. That ending felt like a personal attack, especially as a student myself. The message of this film: when you have the support of your own people, outside opinions don’t matter. Especially for someone who has done their engineering in Kerala, would find it somewhat relatable. The reason why the tagline is a story of a billion boys is because this is what a majority of us have gone through.  Vaazha is the story of a group of friends who navigate through school and college without ever seriously studying, much to the irritation of their fathers and to top that off, they keep getting into trouble.  One of Vaazha's central themes is the father-son relationship. This is captured very beautifully for the three central leads. I particularly loved Joemon Jyothir & Noby Marcose's pairing as soon & father. They deliver on both the laughs and tears. Joemon's co-stars, Siju Sunny (Romancham), Amith Mohan Rajeswari complete the trio. Their fathers played by Azees Nedumangad & Kottayam Nazeer are brilliant. Vaazha takes us through the trials & tribulations of this group of friends as they navigate through school, studies, pressure from parents & love. I loved how they bring to the forefront the struggles of teens who do not have a particular goal in life but they are forced to fit into a specific box predetermined by society/family. Vaazha makes for a brilliant watch. It will have you laughing & move you to tears with equal intensity. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/26/24 Full Review Read all reviews
