Critics Consensus

Venus and Serena may not take fans as deeply into the story of its subjects as they'd like, but it remains an overall engaging look at a pair of global sports stars.

Kimber Myers The Playlist They've made the sport more interesting, both as black athletes and as women...we left Venus and Serena inspired us to get out in the sun and get moving. And call our siblings. Rated: B Aug 13, 2013 Full Review Charlotte O'Sullivan London Evening Standard They're perfect American drama queens. All that's missing is a last act. Rated: 3/5 Jun 28, 2013 Full Review Andrew Pulver Guardian The sisters themselves reveal a little, mostly because of Serena's unguarded imperiousness; but as a study of sports supercelebrity it's a tad subdued. Rated: 3/5 Jun 27, 2013 Full Review David Bax Battleship Pretension Occasionally exasperating in how close it comes to being a true portrait of its subjects' inner lives. Yet, confounded at every turn by the practiced deflections of these media-savvy personalities, it never gets below the surface... Feb 26, 2021 Full Review Robert Roten Laramie Movie Scope This documentary shows that the Williams sisters have always been judged by a different standard than everyone else, except in terms of wins and losses. It is the Williams family against the world, and they like it that way. Rated: B Jan 1, 2014 Full Review Steve O'Brien Total Film It doesn't quite get inside their heads, but it's brimming with vigour - rather like the girls themselves. Rated: 4/5 Jul 2, 2013 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member While I prefer watching and following men's professional tennis over women's, the Williams sisters are a definite exception and I have always found them fascinating. This is a pleasant enough documentary that covers their meteoric rise in tennis and takes a peek at their private lives. However, I wish the filmmakers had dug a little deeper at finding out what makes these two incredible athletes tick. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member another great documentary of tge Williams' Sisters Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Richard Williams is a tosser! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member As a tennis player and fan, this movie is good. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Audience Member I enjoyed the fieriness of these ladies. Explains their utter domination of the sport. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Mostly surface documentary about the Williams sisters. Some mildly interesting behind the scenes stuff, and I love Oracene more than ever, but overall, not as in-depth or as interesting as it ought to be.
