Venus and Serena may not take fans as deeply into the story of its subjects as they'd like, but it remains an overall engaging look at a pair of global sports stars.

They've made the sport more interesting, both as black athletes and as women...we left Venus and Serena inspired us to get out in the sun and get moving. And call our siblings. Go to Full Review

They're perfect American drama queens. All that's missing is a last act. Go to Full Review

The sisters themselves reveal a little, mostly because of Serena's unguarded imperiousness; but as a study of sports supercelebrity it's a tad subdued. Go to Full Review

Occasionally exasperating in how close it comes to being a true portrait of its subjects' inner lives. Yet, confounded at every turn by the practiced deflections of these media-savvy personalities, it never gets below the surface... Go to Full Review

This documentary shows that the Williams sisters have always been judged by a different standard than everyone else, except in terms of wins and losses. It is the Williams family against the world, and they like it that way. Go to Full Review

Julia S @Julia_S 4d Venus and Serena (2012) is a really eye-opening documentary that shows just how much the Williams sisters had to push through both on and off the court. As someone who grew up playing tennis and looking up to them, it was really interesting getting a closer look at the racism, sexism, and unfair double standards they dealt with while still dominating the sport. Moments like Venus breaking barriers at Wimbledon or Serena getting booed at Indian Wells really highlight how much strength it took to keep going. Overall, it’s an inspiring, honest film that celebrates their talent, their bond, and the impact they’ve had on sports and culture. See more Kinery G @kineryg 5d This documentary in particular I did enjoy. It showcased how hard each of the girls worked to get where they are today despite all the odds against them. I do feel that adding the family drama in the film was a bit unnecessary and I could have done without it. But I was pleases seeing powerful female athletes on the screen. See more Mia Y @MiaYamano 6d Although I have little interest in sports, this documentary was fascinating. I was surprised to learn about the various dynamics in the relationship between the twins and their father. Additionally, the film illustrates how they were able to overcome the racism and economic disadvantage they faced. Despite their challenges, including health struggles, the documentary highlights their resilience and advocacy to create change in society and inspire others. See more 03/23/2015 While I prefer watching and following men's professional tennis over women's, the Williams sisters are a definite exception and I have always found them fascinating. This is a pleasant enough documentary that covers their meteoric rise in tennis and takes a peek at their private lives. However, I wish the filmmakers had dug a little deeper at finding out what makes these two incredible athletes tick.
