      Critics Consensus

A fiendishly goofy premise, strong performances, and a strong dose of winkingly meta humor help Vicious Fun deliver on its title.

Peter W Overall, I had a great time with this film. It's funny, random, wild, violent and bloody. Nothing about Vicious Fun was ever predictable, and performances in the film were also fun.  Additionally, we have a soundtrack from the '80s, which only put an even bigger smile on my face. For the most part, the pacing is excellent, but the film does slow down ever so slightly before the third and final bloody showdown.  Combined, these factors will leave audiences wanting more films like this one. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/29/23 Full Review brad p Bloody, heartfelt, and hilarious, Vicious Fun is one of the best horror comedies in years. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Hugo S A horror film critic gets accidentally involved in a self-help group for serial killers. But a great danger arises when his true identity is disclosed. "Vicious Fun" succeeds as a comedy-horror movie that pays homage to the slasher hits of the 80's. Pure entertainment! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Carlos I Like The Rise of Leslie Vernon, this deconstructs slasher tropes and puts them in a fun and ridiculous high concept idea. Evan Marsh is an engaging lead as the final boy that has to survive a night of various serial killers trying to get him. I have a feeling this may be headed for cult film status. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/11/22 Full Review wyatt s Very funny horror/comedy! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/07/22 Full Review Audience Member The retro style and tone carry it throughout, and while the story starts out unique and original it slowly becomes routine and ordinary with an expected ending. Sara Michelle Fetters MovieFreak.com Vicious Fun comes tremendously close to being a pretty great horror-comedy. Rated: 3/4 Nov 15, 2021 Full Review Simon Abrams RogerEbert.com While the makers of Vicious Fun want you to award them points for being light, but also serious enough, their villains (and therefore their biggest ideas) simply aren't gross and/or woke enough to be memorable. Rated: 1/4 Jun 30, 2021 Full Review Leslie Felperin Guardian Impish if flyweight entertainment. Rated: 3/5 Jun 29, 2021 Full Review Serena Seghedoni Loud and Clear Reviews Aided by flawless performances from Marsh, Goldfarb, Millen and the entire cast, Calahan’s film grounds its wackiness in reality, delivering exactly the kind of satisfying, “vicious” fun its title promises. Rated: 4/5 Sep 18, 2023 Full Review Terry Staunton Radio Times While the gruesome set pieces tend to be signposted and predictable they're dispatched with stylish glee, as if celebrating scares we've seen before, rather than inventing new ones. Rated: 3/5 Aug 12, 2021 Full Review Dan Stubbs NME (New Musical Express) This sidestep into comedy horror is a bold one - because it's not easy to balance laughs and scares as competently as this - but it all works.
