Antonina (Ludmila Motornaya) works as a tractor operator on a farm in the Ukraine, where she lives with her family in the years following World War II. Her bosses award her the "red banner" because she's their most diligent worker. But the banner causes her life to deteriorate. She overworks herself in an attempt to justify the banner's presence in her house. Her husband (Vyacheslav Batrakov), who lost his legs in the war, turns to drink. And vermin continually gnaw at the banner itself.

Nick Schager Slant Magazine Marina Razbezhkina's Harvest Time uses nostalgia as more of an emotional than intellectual device. Audience Member horrible russian film, don't believe what it says on the dvd... Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member Russian man relates his memories of a pivotal year in his childhood when he lived on a collective farm after the Great Patriotic War. An incredibly multi-layered movie that runs the gamut from happy family memories based on the realization that the value of life isn't contained within possessions but rather in the enjoyment of experiences with others, to mental illness, to alcoholism, to the poignancy of post-Communism with a dash of the supernatural mixed in (all contained in a movie that barely tops an hour in length). A highly visual movie that contains just enough understated narration to keep the story moving along. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Read all reviews
