Ian W What a shame all that money a cast of thousands and it misses. Is it Steiger the script or the direction. But, it was a challenge to create such an epic. A shame that there wasn't one of the lead actors characters that you could like and engage with. and there lies the fault. Save it for a very rainy Sunday. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/02/24 Full Review Alex H An amazing spectacle with a brilliant portrayal of a one of histories most complex characters Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/16/24 Full Review nico T wonderful recostruction, close as possible to the facts Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/01/24 Full Review Anthony W An all time classic. To this day the greatest number of extras. The portrayal of the battle is brilliantly realistic. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/30/23 Full Review Andrew N Amazing battle scenes and as close to historical correctness you can get. 17000 Ukrainian soldiers were used to create the realistic looking battle scenes. A classic. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/26/23 Full Review Dionysis K This is a classic, and Rod Steiger is immense, making the new Napoleon movie look like an amateur nightmare. Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times Bondarchuk is so overwhelmed by the thousands of Russian cavalry troops he's been given to play with, and by his $25 million budget, and by-his obsession for aerial photography, that his leading characters turn out scarcely more human than his extras. Rated: 2/4 Jul 9, 2018 Full Review Stefan Kanfer TIME Magazine As for the golden history and legend, they lie buried beneath this delayed replay of a primer on strategy. Feb 8, 2018 Full Review Geoff Andrew Time Out Visually impressive, but a rather silly attempt to explain Napoleon. Jan 26, 2006 Full Review John Mahoney Los Angeles Free Press Waterloo is a spectacle which constantly pays off its panoramas in close-ups... But it gives us only a surface personality of the key military strategists, bits of clever dialogue. Jan 11, 2020 Full Review John Hofsess Maclean's Magazine ... in Waterloo the style is pedantic, the information dubious. Oct 21, 2019 Full Review Penelope Houston The Spectator A confusion of spectacular aerial shots, romantic slow- motion calvary charges, mumbled high command conferences and deafening artillery.
