Critics Consensus

The characters are still endearing, but the jokes in Wayne's World 2 are more hit-and-miss the second time around.

Jay H If you've ever wondered why this sequel is so bad, read the Wikipedia article on it. Mike Myers is not a smart person. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 09/20/24 Full Review Bahad j This idea of the film shooting technique director made the film more attractive to people. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/15/24 Full Review Colby B Liked it as much as the original. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/03/24 Full Review Leandro T for a sequel, I was astonished at how good and funny it was. Not as good as the original but worth your time Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/28/24 Full Review Blu B It has the same look, feel, and actors from the first and only follows a year after the first. In theory all the assets are here that are needed for this to capture the magic of the first. However, the one thing missing is the clever wittiness and in place there is more randomness and nonsensical humor and references. The script is the main problem but also the jokes are very hit or miss. The first 5-10 minutes is pretty good, than it gets very flat and random for awhile, than it starts to find it's stride before running out of gas and barely limping to the finish. The message is kind of heartfelt at the end but it just needed to be told in a better way. the whole concert and love stories for both Garth and Wayne feel like they never intertwine and could've been cut. The music is stilly pretty solid and the acting chemistry isn't bad despite the jokes being very hit or miss. The cinematography really look s like the first to a tee but just doesn't have the same witty jokes but it still isn't bad. The editing is just ok as well. Again it feels like it loses focus lots of times but it relies on the acting energy and look and feel of the first to carry it across the finish line. As it is it's a fun enough time and recaptures certain parts of what made the first so good but misses one of the most important parts, a story as witty. Let alone building off of the first or expanding ideas in a focused way. Anyone who loves 90's comedies or any actors in this would probably like this. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/24 Full Review Andy H Wayne's World 1 is a stone cold classic. 2, in isolation, isn't that bad. Just kind of mediocre. Like someone handed in the first draft and they just went with it. But I made the unfortunate decision to watch 1 and 2 back to back. Stacked against 1, 2 is a pretty bad film. The plot element of having a concert is nice, but the B story, Cassandra's part, is a total retread of her arc in 1. Wayne comes up with a stupid reason to part, jealousy, again, she runs off with her manager type dude and he tries to put the moves on her, it's tired stuff. And because we've seen it play out in 1, it's not interesting or funny. The main plot, the concert, is mildly entertaining, but so many of the jokes just don't land. Tonally, 1 was brilliant. 2, however, feels directed by someone who didn't share the sensibilities of 1's director. All the pieces are there with a great cast of endearing characters, but the story had me looking at my watch multiple times and it just doesn't feel fun. The first movie's vibe was a delight. Knowing they churned this out just one year after 1 hit theaters helps me understand why it feels rushed, hollow, etc. A massive wasted opportunity to turn this into a multi-film franchise. A few chuckles, but nothing great. 1 is the superior film. 2, on its own merits, is just kind of there. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/28/23 Full Review Read all reviews
