Audience Member Awful. Incoherent plot line. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member The title should be "We ARE one Man" since it's an evolving love story of an injured German soldier and a French peasant. Wait, it's really the story of Guy, a mentally imbalanced frenchman who combats loneliness to find fulfillment in the arms of a German soldier during World War II. Serge Avedikian plays the frenchman and his performance reminded me of Roberto Begnini in "Life is Beautiful" but Avedikian is more manic. It's a commanding performance though and I was completely mesmerized with this man/child, wild/unpredictable, bisexual man, who's smart and strong at the same time. This is the type of performance that should win awards. Piotr Stanislas looks the part of Rolf, the German solider and Catherine Albin is fine as Avedikian's love interest. The movie suffers from bad editing, some scenes go on too long, and the overbearing music is too melodramatic. Another quibble is that you don't have any idea of the status of the war. The quiet scenes are the best and the physical man plays of the two leads are very homoerotic. You're not quite sure of Avedikian's state of unstability and towards the end, he goes mad which is timed with his growing homosexuality. His stealing a gramophone, while ignoring a Village carnage, seems to be selfish and that he only wants to play music to dance with his closeted love. Was he repressing it? Like an Italian opera, he unleashes his rage at his newfound affection. If it's any indication, the ending indicates our beloved frenchman is indeed mad with desire. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Audience Member It's one of those movies that doesn't have a happy ending, but it's enjoyable to watch. It has a bitter-sweet love story that is short-lived. It's low-budget but the acting makes it easy to surpass that. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Read all reviews
