Audience Member I saw the original version, titled "White Star". The movie is very bad, and without Dennis Hopper, it would have been torture to watch it. But Dennis Hopper is so good in it (think Blue Velvet) that I had a pretty good time. But man, the writing and direction were awful. ;-) 3/5 Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member It's hard to imagine that any film that combined the crazed, over-the-top villainy of Dennis Hopper and David Hess could turn out to be so boring, but "Let it Rock" manages to pull off a miracle. It's hard to tell what this German-made film is supposed to be about, but David Hess once described it as a story of Jesus in the heavy metal world, with Hopper as St. Peter and Hess as Judas; I don't quite see it, but least he was able to find a point to this whole mess! Sadly, Mr. Hess is finished before the film is half over and is given very little to do, but, boy, does Mr. Hopper certainly get a LOT to do! "Let it Rock" was filmed just before Hopper was institutionalized for his drug problems and you can certainly tell since his performance here makes his work in "Apocalypse Now" looks subtle and restrained; it's almost like the filmmakers just chose to turn on the camera and film Hopper rambling incoherently instead of bothering to write an actual script. So, to sum it all up, nothing much happens in this film at all except a couple of riot scenes, some horrible music sequences, and a lot of footage of Dennis Hopper ending every sentence with the word "man". Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Absolutely worth it for Dennis Hopper completely out of his mind. At the end of the film you realize if only he hadn't been in the movie, everything would have gone so well for all of the characters... Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Read all reviews
