Ed Gonzalez Slant Magazine Who's Camus Anyway doesn't simply reflect our love for the movies, it responds to it as well. Rated: 3.5/4 Sep 26, 2005 Full Review Kirk Honeycutt Hollywood Reporter Energy and comedy are in large supply in writer-director Mitsuo Yanagimachi's Who's Camus Anyway?, yet another riff on the levels of reality that occur when a cast and crew make a movie. May 20, 2005 Full Review Panos Kotzathanasis Asian Movie Pulse "Who's Camus Anyway?" is an impressive movie that highlights the utter command Yanagimachi had of the medium, and a more than fitting swan song of one of the most important filmmakers of contemporary Japanese cinema. Feb 21, 2021 Full Review Doug Cummings Filmjourney While it's chock full of film references, colorful characters, and social eccentricities, its true sophistication emerges gradually, posing complex questions about the roles of fantasy, identity, and volition in modern life. Nov 1, 2006 Full Review John A. Nesbit Old School Reviews Yanagimachi's inventive film about a collegiate film school project contains tangled webs of melodramatic fun along with moments of self-reflection Rated: B Aug 22, 2006 Full Review Leo Goldsmith Not Coming to a Theater Near You The Japanese propensity for faithful imitation is the focus of Yanagimachi's film, and, most of all, the imitation of life through the cinema. Audience Member This works on so many levels. It's ultra literate. It's incredibly witty visually. It leaves you breathless. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member great fun for cinephiles Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Now streaming on Netflix. This film is just bursting with life and energy. Yanigimachi's choreography of actors and extras is both bustling but controlled. It seems like anything could happen in this movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member (****): I was really surprised by how much I liked this film. I found it to be near-perfect. A very intriguing story, solid direction, and a strong cast. One of my new favorites. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member The last part...T__T Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Audience Member Shows interesting points of the bureaucracy of making a movie and has a lot of references that makes analogies in the movie work. Luckily, I've got the main reference to Albert Camus' Meursault because of a "The Cure" song, but the movie may not make much sense if you don't know the references... I'd probably give it a 3 out of 5 in that case. =P Anyway, the movie makes a good mix of what's happening in the movie they are making and what happens in "real life".
