First, all in all, this is a good movie. I felt that the parallel to civil rights through a new medium that kids could understand better was powerful. The movie had a purpose and executed it well. On top of this, the movie was definitely enjoyable. Jackman, Stewart, and McKellan played fantastic roles, although the rest of the X-Men felt somewhat under utilized to me. To be honest, the first issue I have is with the rest of the brotherhood. Mystique’s CGI could have been better, Sabretooth is a shallow and useless character, and Toad felt completely disturbing and had poorly delivered lines, which I felt hurt the movie the most. That said, the relationship between Logan and Rogue is touching, Charles Xavier simply as a character contributes greatly to the film, and it felt very much like a comic book had been taken onto the big screen. The movie was well written, directed and acted, it simply wasn’t extraordinary in any of these categories either.

A great starting point for Marvel movies on the big screen (yes, Blade came first, but this movie is better). It hasn't aged well and later movies expanded on it greatly, but it's iconic for a reason. So many things were done right that I can excuse the standard, mediocre plot, comic inaccuracies (yes, Scott, I WOULD prefer yellow spandex), and some of the writing being awful...you know which amphibian-related line I'm talking about. Overall, it's important to watch as a piece of history and a fun time, but is a fairly middle-of-the-road entry in the franchise
