Ronnie Scheib Variety One could, however, wish that this endless encomium played less like a PowerPoint sales pitch, illustrated with clip-art imagery, scored with generic music and narrated in mellifluous tones by Annette Bening. Oct 19, 2012 Full Review Frank Scheck The Hollywood Reporter Kate Clere McIntyre and Saraswati Clere's less than revelatory documentary that incessantly makes the point that yoga is really, really good for you. Oct 19, 2012 Full Review Sara Stewart New York Post The ancient Eastern tradition is demonstrably beneficial for both mind and body, but its execution can be so boring and its teachers so painfully earnest. Rated: 2/4 Oct 19, 2012 Full Review Brent Simon Shockya.com With a stronger narrative spine and a little more sense of gender-gap curiosity, Yogawoman could bridge the gap between faithful yoga adherents and a general audience. As is, it does not. Rated: C- Nov 1, 2012 Full Review Gabrielle Lipton Paste Magazine For what it is, the film is entirely feel-good, lauds women who are making positive changes in the world, and, if nothing else, provides a reminder to at least stretch once in a while. Rated: 6.7/10 Oct 26, 2012 Full Review Marsha McCreadie Film Journal International A pleasant and pretty polemic narrated by a serene Annette Bening, Yogawoman presents the ancient practice of yoga as a cure-all for the physical and spiritual ills of today's women. Audience Member Urainia: (hands Apasmara book) Here you go... Apasmara: What's this? (reads cover) Pantanjali's Yoga Sutras? Urainia: Yes. That's translated by my Swami Satchidananda Saraswati (points) That's him sitting next to my tigers. Apasmara: (flips through book) I thought you said no credits? Urainia: (grabs book/points) Right here he says this is all The Mother's. You cannot possess what is already The Mother's. (hands book back) Apasmara: Oh. (looks at book) I see... Urainia: And this was written by a fellow snake like yourself. Apasmara: What? Urainia: Pantanjali was a snake, yes. Snakes really know how to explain all this to fellow snakes, unlike some Buddhists and Orthodox Jews who keep women out of their spiritual studies for obvious reasons. Apasmara: Obvious reasons? Urainia: Snakes like to keep up the play that they're in charge. It is a snakes hell-realm here manifested in fraudulence if they don't recognize the Mother (pause) England at least was good enough to get one thing right this time... Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Since coming to the West, Yoga has transformed the lives of so many people in many amazing ways. This doco takes you through some really inspiring stories. highly recommended! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Yogawoman is an uplifting and inspiring film showcasing the rise in popularity of yoga for women along with the physical, emotional and spiritual benefits associated with regular practice, regardless of your age. Documentaries sometimes run the risk of overloading the audience with facts and information, but Yogawoman avoids this by interspersing enjoyable and engaging personal stories told by individual women whose lives have been profoundly changed for the better through doing yoga. A delightful film. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Audience Member This is a great - and important! - film. Beautifully shot and very uplifting. Don't miss it.
