David P Growing up and being a hockey player I loved and continue to love this movie. It is one of my top five favorite sports films of all time. It portrays the game of hockey as it was played more so during the 70s and early 80s. Seriously not only watching the playing, skill of the game, and the goalies (I loved the goalie masks and was disappointed I could not wear those types of masks when I was a young squirt in hockey). The romance and relationships between the players, coach's, and even the love interest are ok, but the real reward is the hockey and the greatness of friendship. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/08/23 Full Review Little B This movie is really good if you like hockey. It is very entertaining and fun too watch. There are some kisses parts but just a little. When they play games it is really entertaining there are fights and goals. The final game the team Youngblood is on is playing there rival and then they won on a shoutout. Best movie in the 19 century. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/06/23 Full Review Carlos I A decent enough goes sports flick, but it doesn't leave any real lasting impression. It goes through every sports flick trope, so there's not much excitement or suspense throughout, but it's competently made, so if you have a hunger for one of these movies it should satiate. Or if you're a fan of the actors, or grew up with it. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/03/22 Full Review Audience Member An underrated hockey movie with Swayze and Lowe working seemingly well together. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member For a sports movie it was alright even if it followed the usual script. The casting was OK. Rob Lowe was quite believable and Patrick Swayze didn't steal top spot. Keanu Reeves was in there but just about invisible. My principal objection was with the actual game(s) shown. To be fair, hockey is an extremely difficult sport to simulate but the depiction of the violence and the play-on-ice was insulting. The referees were of the Slapshot school and totally not believable. The depiction of the Memorial Cup was ridiculous. The moviemaker had no idea how huge an event the memorial cup is here in Canada. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Hard to find a good hockey movie out there as good as youngblood. Desmond Ryan Philadelphia Inquirer Youngblood runs out of gas halfway through the first period. Rated: 1/4 Jun 12, 2013 Full Review Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times Youngblood is not a bad movie, and indeed has moments of real conviction. But it is doomed by its plot, which is yet another example of what I like to call the Climb from Despair to Victory (CLIDVIC, rhymes with Kid Pic). Rated: 2/4 Jan 1, 2000 Full Review Eddie Harrison film-authority.com ...ice hockey lends itself perfectly to the big screen, and it helps that many of the main cast know their way around the Plexiglas arenas.... Rated: 3/5 Jul 21, 2021 Full Review Felix Vasquez Jr. Cinema Crazed Is no masterpiece, but it's a definite slice of eighties cheese that delivers on action, engaging characters, and a kick ass final showdown that I had fun with. Aug 15, 2014 Full Review Walter Chaw Film Freak Central So gay that it's almost possible to see the film as a comment that the real audience for movies like this are pre-sexual little boys and homosexual big boys.
