Christopher B The 15th film in the Zatoichi saga is also one of the best and most entertaining of the films and pure Ichi fun! Zatoichi's Cane Sword has everything we've come to expect and love in the Zatoichi tales and one that once again follows Ichi as he tries to quit the life of killing and justice he has lead. A local blacksmith tells Ichi that his sword has one more kill left, but after that stroke it will break. Therefore, Ichi gives the blacksmith his cane sword and proceeds to begin a more leisurely life. Of course there are too many bad guys with injustice and evil ways about them for Ichi to simply quit, not to mention another 11 films and television series left. The smith is able to switch the nearly destroyed cane sword with the new cane sword being made for one of the leaders of a rival clan and sword enemy to Ichi. In a dashing final showdown Ichi learns the blacksmith, who earlier was killed by the same clan, has switched the swords and thus ensures Ichi's victory and the downfall of the evil clan. This film was a pure delight and one of the most fun and entertaining of the Zatoichi films. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/19/22 Full Review Audience Member Zatoichi's cane sword is as iconic to his character as much as Indy's whip or Batman's utility belt. After defending himself from thugs, an older sword maker tells Zatoichi that his sword has reached its peak. If he uses it one more time, it'll snap. Zatoichi realizes he's going to have to change his lifestyle, and decides to become a full time masseur now that his sword is useless. But when a crime boss puts his thumb down on the town, Zatoichi must do what he does best, sword or no sword. Featuring a cool dream sequence that lets you really get into the mind of our hero, Zatoichi's Cane Sword is a nice halfway point in the series. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member Another winner from the samurai franchise, in which he discovers from an alcoholic blacksmith whose mentor made Zatoichi's cane-sword that there is a crack, and the next time it is drawn will be its last. Naturally he is nervous from this news because as always the village he finds himself in is terrorized by corruption, so he has to find some way to once again rise to the challenge. A wonderful and indispensable part of the series. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Things are picking up for the franchise, interesting enough Zatoichi gets a brand new blade. Story is ordinary as usual, but seeing Zatoichi fight without his blade is awesome. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member While light on humor, this film sheds light on the lineage of the famous cane sword. A must see for fans.
