Zoe has some interesting ideas but never manages to get a satisfying grip on them, settling for slow-moving sci-fi that ultimately fails to engage.

Scott M Lea Seydoux is so brilliant in this film. Very well made story about the future of AI and how robots very well could be used. Similar to the movie "Her" I found it a lot more interesting and better told. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/24/24 Full Review Laura K A film hasn't made me cry for years. Romantic sci-fi is definitely now my thing. The atmosphere between the leading characters was electric. Breathtaking. Curious to know more about their lives and what happens next. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/20/23 Full Review Dirk D Interesting premise. Great performances. Glenn Kenny New York Times The yearning displayed by Cole and Zoe is meant to be profound. But at a certain point the examination of loss in love ceases to show sensitivity and begins to look like emotional immaturity. Aug 14, 2018 Full Review Ignatiy Vishnevetsky AV Club Wrestling with the intrinsic creepiness of the premise would involve some social commentary, self-awareness, and honest-to-God storytelling, and that's not Doremus' bag. Rated: C- Jul 24, 2018 Full Review Brian Tallerico RogerEbert.com The non-stop, navel-gazing, faux philosophical dialogue about love starts to feel like some strange experiment itself. Rated: 1/4 Jul 20, 2018 Full Review Danielle Del Plato Floated Alternative Culture Magazine While Doremus' work centers around connections, it's near impossible for the audience to connect with Zoe. Rated: 3/10 Dec 6, 2018 Full Review Joey Magidson AwardsCircuit.com What helps to set "Zoe" apart is that Doremus aims equally for your head and your heart. Rated: 3/4 Oct 11, 2018 Full Review Andrew Karpan Film School Rejects Zoe constructs a dialogue between these two critically adored movies and peels apart the kind of fantasy they satisfy in order to obligingly critique it.
