Drake Doremus
Writer and director Drake Doremus developed a reputation thanks to positive reception of films "Douchebag" (2010), "Like Crazy" (2011), and "Breathe In" (2013) at the Sundance Film Festival. Doremus' tender flair was a perfect match for Sundance's indie-skewing sensibilities, and for a generation of viewers hungry for sweet, soft spoken stories about life, love, and pain. Drake Doremus was born March 29, 1983, in Orange, California. He took to filmmaking early, directing his first feature at age 23: the romantic comedy "Moonpie" (2006), featuring "MadTV" (Fox 1995-2009) star Michael McDonald. After the release of Doremus' sophomore feature, "Spooner" (2009), the 27-year-old filmmaker sought a directing education at the American Film Institute. Upon entry, Doremus became the youngest individual ever accepted into the program. Doremus' following ventures saw more success, achieving critical favor at the Sundance Film Festival. The director made his first foray into the Sundance world with "Douchebag" (2010), a road trip comedy that he worked on with regular collaborators Lindsay Stidham and Ben York Jones. Next, Doremus and Jones cowrote the romance picture "Like Crazy" (2011), another Sundance debut and the former's biggest project yet. After working briefly on the digital miniseries "The Beauty Inside" (YouTube 2012), Doremus continued his Sundance streak with the romantic drama "Breathe In" (2013). Next, he debuted the sci-fi drama "Equals" (2015) at the Venice Film Festival.
