A crime anthology series where viewers are taken on the journey of the defendant. Each episode opens in a courtroom on the accused, with viewers knowing nothing about their crime or how they ended up on trial. Told from the defendant's point of view through flashbacks, "Accused" holds a mirror up to the current times with evocative and emotional stories. Viewers discover how an ordinary person gets caught up in an extraordinary situation, ultimately revealing how one wrong turn leads to another, until it's too late to turn back.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

While Accused is yet another variation on a very familiar theme, its anthology structure offers enough flexibility and star power for some compelling courtroom stories.

Matthew Gilbert Boston Globe While I keep waiting for Accused to improve, I have been consistently disappointed. An hour is not enough time to set up and look into some of the complex issues the writers are addressing. Mar 24, 2023 Full Review Sophie Gilbert The Atlantic Accused amps up the extremes, favoring emotional horror over nuance. Feb 14, 2023 Full Review Richard Roeper Chicago Sun-Times Even though it moves from city to city and case to case each week, there’s a certain sameness to the visual tones; the series has the competent but not particularly stylish look of a crime procedural from the 1990s. Rated: 2/4 Jan 27, 2023 Full Review Melissa Camacho Common Sense Media The U.S. remake of the weighty British anthology series combines crime stories inspired by actual events and courtroom procedurals to create narratives that are more emotional than insightful. Jan 17, 2024 Full Review James Croot The Post NZ Less appointment viewing than a series you’ll find yourself picking and choosing your potential favourites from online. Jun 14, 2023 Full Review Shannon Campe The Spool It’s not reinventing the wheel, but at least it’s not out-and-out copaganda like so many other crime-focused television shows.  Jan 27, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews

April H All the episodes are stand alone and draw you in the whole show. Enjoyed every episode which is unusual. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/22/23 Full Review Melissa R After the fourth episode I'm done. The first two episodes were great. But while the third and fourth episodes were just as good of plots as the first two, the stories did not conclude. The episodes showed the circumstances of how the individuals found themselves accused of their crimes, but then ended without showing the outcome of the trial or the predicament they were in. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/21/23 Full Review K F Something to watch. Another American fail in trying to recreate a successful British show. Every episode ends predictably, sappy storylines, characters that make really dumb and unbelievable decisions, lots of current cliches and a Hallmark-movie-of-the-week soundtrack eviscerates any of the gravitas heaviness you want in crime/legal dramas. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/02/23 Full Review Lauren Season 1 started out very entertaining but after a few episodes turned very cheesy and silly. I thought this would be a show I would dread waiting for the next episode to air instead I found myself watching the first 10-15 minutes then turning it off because the production was so tacky. I would only recommend watching the first 4-5 episodes. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 06/05/23 Full Review hobbity k The writing was abysmal, lacking any semblance of authenticity or depth. The characters were one-dimensional, the dialogue cringe-worthy, and the plot contrived and predictable. It failed to capture the essence of a captivating legal drama, making it an utter waste of time for anyone seeking quality entertainment in the genre. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 05/18/23 Full Review Miguel R I love that this show allows us to empathise with defendants. Based on the reviews, it seems a lot of viewers and critics cannot be bothered or are unable to empathise as otherwise the reviews would be more favorable. There are plenty of cops and lawyers shows, that mainly show us their point of view so it is a refreshing change Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/23/23 Full Review Read all reviews
