Dhruv S American Primeval is an unrestrained brutal honest look at the American West. It succeeds with scope and scale without overly glorifying or dramatizing the setting. Which is a fairly difficult route to travel. Within one episode the show establishes the various factions while sparking the initial event that reverberates throughout till the end of the limited series. The action is dynamic yet serves its purpose. Brutal without being over the top. Taylor Kitsch does an excellent job and has certainly rehabilitated his image. This is a must watch for western fans. The streamers are still milking that vein, and Primeval wallows in muddy outposts where life is cheap and nary a likeable character is to be found. The grimness of it all tries to convey an illusion of dark realism, but is more likely an attempt to mask the story's shortcomings. Personally, I can think of better ways to spend 5 hours of my time. Centered around primarily two women and a man who demonstrate incredible strength , righteous, and fortitude. The Mormon may not like how they are portrayed. They are willing to do whatever is necessary to take the Utah Territory for themselves including killing anyone standing in their way; other settlers, Shoshone Indians and the US Army. Saw all episodes straight through. Rather brutal. My only issue was the distance covered by certain parties as they were going to and fro as I was not exactly clear about where certain locations were in relation to each other and the distance. But still, really enjoyed it. I liked Kitch's character and at first could not stand the female protagonist, but I ended up liking her a lot. The only bad thing is that it was a limited series.
