      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

American Rust's tale of America lost is a worthy one, but despite an A-list cast it simply doesn't have the narrative clarity or heft necessary to do its subject matter justice.

Deborah Ross The Mail on Sunday (UK) American Rust is being billed as 'the new Mare Of Easttown'. And it isn't. In its dreams, you might even add. Dec 4, 2021 Full Review Fiona Sturges Financial Times American Rust is relentlessly, oppressively gloomy. Jul 24, 2023 Full Review Susan Granger Just like that collapsed bridge in Pittsburgh, 'American Rust' - filmed in and around that city - demonstrates the ruination or what can happen when a crime drama isn't properly developed or cared for, making it of little use to anyone. Fyrst S Average, For an American whodunit it's about a 6 but compared to non-US similar shows it's at best a 5. Jeff Daniels and the supporting cast are good. Writing is good. It's a good time-passer. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/20/23 Full Review Jason L The critics are fools, was a great show. Not every show needs to be a metropolitan circle jerk of the affluent. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/01/23 Full Review Marie T From the beginning to the end this series great. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member I hate that this series is cancelled. I really got into the characters and the story line was really good. Shame on Showtime for cancelling a really good series. I will cancel them as soon as Ozark is done. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member It's amazing that so many people, critics and audience alike, seemed to miss the beauty of this show. Sad to see good shows killed off. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Well acted with a twisting story. I'm only sorry the second season was canceled.
