Wenlei Ma The Nightly (AU) Wickedly funny. Sep 25, 2024 Full Review Inkoo Kang New Yorker Brian Jordan Alvarez's new FX comedy tackles hot-button issues with a satisfying mix of earnestness and irreverence. Sep 20, 2024 Full Review Randy Myers San Jose Mercury News “English Teacher” takes a kinder eye at the absurdity of the human condition, even joshing about the understandable messiness of the person [Alvarez] plays, high school English teacher Evan Marquez. Rated: 3/4 Sep 5, 2024 Full Review Dustin Rowles Pajiba It accomplishes the seemingly impossible task of addressing our annoyance with certain aspects of modern youth culture while still treating young people with understanding and respect. I cannot recommend it more. Sep 12, 2024 Full Review Joyce Slaton Common Sense Media The episodes play like old-school issue-of-the-week sitcoms, yet the dialogue is fresh, the characters are lovable, and English Teacher is just plain fun—a lot more fun than going to school yourself (or teaching in it, for that matter). Sep 11, 2024 Full Review Rachel Leishman The Mary Sue It lives up to the hype. The new FX series is genuinely hilarious. Sep 10, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

Adam M I feel seen, heard and I am literally laughing out loud each episode. Just a fantastic show. I expect no less from Brian Jordan Alvarez. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/03/24 Full Review Audience Member To me, this show felt fully baked from episode one - yet the latest two episodes have kicked it up a notch even higher. The casting is brilliant, the actors playing Evan and Gwen have such incredible chemistry, and the writing tackles the absurdity of today's over-politicized world with a good-natured and human touch. The comedy is in the performances - every actor knows exactly who they are parodying without dehumanizing them, and the jokes feel unexpected and fresh. Special shout out to all the actors playing the students - this is the first time I've seen genz portrayed in a way that doesn't feel cringeworthy. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/02/24 Full Review Ingrid P Amazing chemistry among this cast of lovable losers. This show is a fun take on the absurdities of social relationships and responsibilities during these crazy complicated times. It has fun without taking pot-shots. I like these characters, and I like their stories. Definitely worth a watch. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/27/24 Full Review FRANK F I haven't enjoyed a comedy this much since Schitt's Creek and Ted Lasso. It's the NC-17 version of Abbott Elementary. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/27/24 Full Review Audience Member I truly believe this show should be renewed even though it just premiered... I would say this show is a great lighthearted comedy!!! 10/10 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/27/24 Full Review Jackson M Hilarious! It doesn’t reinvent the wheel and it doesn’t try too hard- it’s just flat out funny, authentic people! Seriously the dialogue in the tirst 2 mins of runtime already had me laughing from how true, yet unexpected the lines were. It’s a shame FX doesnt give more money to people like Alavarez instead of the ryan murphies of the world who keep fipping over lazy scripts.
