In the year 2022, the vampire Louis de Pointe du Lac lives in Dubai and seeks to tell the story of his life or afterlife to renowned journalist Daniel Molloy. Beginning in early 20th-century New Orleans, Louis' story follows his relationship with the vampire Lestat du Lioncourt and their formed family, including teen fledgling Claudia. Together, the vampire family endures immortality in New Orleans and beyond. As the interview continues in Dubai, Molloy discovers the truths beneath Louis' story.

There’s an entertaining surplus of queer desire, fake blood, and ripe dialogue. It’s evocative in the best sense, with the change of location from 1910s New Orleans to 1940s Paris providing a welcome new backdrop.

Even in the show’s slight shortcomings, it doesn’t give off the impression of malice or ill-intention. It plays into the show’s larger themes of people living ugly, complicated lives where there are no easy, cookie-cutter answers.

Upon hearing about the show initially, I was skeptical - what with the many cast and plot changes but my god was i pleasantly surprised with how wonderfully amazing it is! In an era of increasingly bland and predictable television, this show has proven that projects with risk taking, good writing and talented actors always rise to the top.

This is the best show on television, period. Doesn’t matter if you’ve read Anne Rice’s brilliant work, or not. Incredibly underrated show, and an absolute masterpiece.
