Randy Myers San Jose Mercury News Showrunner Marco Ramirez’s setup bites off a lot to chew on in six episodes, but even when “La Máquina” doesn’t connect, it bobs and weaves with style and fire whenever Luna and Bernal take center stage together. Rated: 3.5/4 Oct 16, 2024 Full Review Daniel Fienberg The Hollywood Reporter It’s up to director Gabriel Ripstein (Narcos) to serve as tone wrangler and, for the most part, he does it well. Oct 11, 2024 Full Review Kristen Baldwin Entertainment Weekly Suspenseful and strange in all the best ways, 'La Máquina' is a contender for one of the best shows of the year. Oct 11, 2024 Full Review Ernesto Diezmartinez Letras Libres The series starring García and Luna is not about corruption in boxing nor is it a paranoid thriller: it is an entertaining vehicle for the two actors, who take advantage of the complex relationship between their characters. Oct 21, 2024 Full Review Ezequiel Boetti Otroscines.com Not all the subplots work... but the series grows when it indulges in the inevitable emotionality of sporting rebirths and investigates the relationship between Esteban and Andy. Ericka R Excellent limited series! While everyone did a fantastic job, I really hope Diego Luna is considered when awards season rolls around. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/28/24 Full Review Jen S This is an absolute must see series! The on screen chemistry between Diego and Gael is really magical to watch, I think the authenticity of their real life "brotherhood" (something much deeper than just friendship) translates well as far as being borrowed by their characters. These are 2 very seasoned actors who have grown up together in the business but also maintained a very close relationship off screen as well. That brings a type of realism to a scene that wouldn't normally exist with even the most professional actors. They play off eachother incredibly well. I would imagine at times it was hard not to laugh or they must have burst out laughing between takes! When Diego first appeared with the full eyebrows/nose/lips and bubble butt I spat out my drink because I was laughing so hard at the character transformation, holy cow, great job makeup and wardrobe! But it is his performance that is EXCELLENT and if this man is not nominated for an Emmy for this role, there is something wrong because THIS is great acting. Diego is brave, vulnerable, willing to dig deep and bare not only his emotions but alter his body to become the character. Diego is almost unrecognizable as himself and he truly pulls off becoming Andy. 100% believable. This could not have been easy and I love that he took on this challenge completely. Gael is very believable as the aging boxer and lifelong friend of Andy and the supporting cast are all excellent, even the kids. The story line has everything, (including a stylized scene where Diego and Gael sing and dance) it will make you laugh, cry and sit on the edge of your seat as well as make you really think about certain things. Highly recommended! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/24/24 Full Review Leslie M Diego Luna (Andy) and Gael Garcia Bernal (Esteban "La Maquina") always deliver as as an acting duo because of their genuine off the screen friendship. The series writing is excellent as it is authentic. I've enjoyed the mix between the moments of intrigue, darkness, and levity. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/29/24 Full Review David M Excelente, un elenco de primer orden. Saludos desde Puerto Rico. 🇵🇷 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/25/24 Full Review Audience Member Seriously, this story doesn't make any sense, it's a series with a lousy script. I'm not complaining about the acting or the photography or the setting, what makes no sense is the story, its direction and uncreative ending in 6 chapters. Now they should put more effort into it, because these projects bury careers.
