What to Know

Critics Consensus

Harkening back to the classic sitcom formula while unafraid to have a contemporary, risqué sense of humor, Mid-Century Modern is endearingly old-fashioned.

Wenlei Ma The Nightly (AU) It’s rapid-fire and it’s glorious, and Mid-Century Modern’s three leads are having a ball. Apr 22, 2025 Full Review John Anderson Wall Street Journal In “Mid-Century Modern,” our heroes would never allow a hair to give away their age. But everything else is fodder for comedy. And much of it works. Mar 27, 2025 Full Review Matthew Creith TheWrap “Mid-Century Modern” is a play on the ensemble cast’s age and famous Palm Springs architecture, a fitting title for a sitcom about gay men of a certain age looking for love in all the wrong places. Mar 27, 2025 Full Review David Opie Yahoo! Movies UK Mid-Century Modern is an 80s show that could have never been made in the 80s, a new old-fashioned sitcom that dares to ask; What if gay, but old?... An easygoing, feel-good watch that might just be the perfect escape in these modern, apocalyptic times. Rated: 4/5 May 1, 2025 Full Review Neely Swanson Beverly Hills Courier What is wonderful is the presence of Linda Lavin, whose way with a phrase is like a defanged venomous snake, lovely to look at and extraordinarily clever, but you don’t want to get too close because she still stings. Apr 29, 2025 Full Review Tara Ariano Cracked For their latest, Will & Grace co-creators David Kohan and Max Mutchnick have stolen from the best, and I couldn’t be happier they did. Stephen C 10 funny and successful episodes!!!!!!!! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 05/23/25 Full Review Melissa C I thought that this would be at least a little funny. But it was just corny and awkward. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 05/14/25 Full Review Cj D I was pleasantly surprised by this show. I expected it to be something cringy or over the top, but no. I was refreshing, fun, and satisfying to watch. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/11/25 Full Review Jack W Old time situation comedy. Fun bawdy adult humor. Way Way Way to much laugh track. Makes the show feel old and cringey. Too bad because the show is fairly well written. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 04/24/25 Full Review Jade H It's a difficult watch. I understand the points and markers the show is aiming for but unfortunately it's aim is regularly off center and misses. One dimensional characters with no storyline other than three friends living together, there's not really anything to follow along with, stories that are rarely introduced aren't followed up. It's easy to have in the background and I enjoy the casting choices. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/22/25 Full Review Read all reviews
