What to Know

Critics Consensus

Harkening back to the classic sitcom formula while unafraid to have a contemporary, risqué sense of humor, Mid-Century Modern is endearingly old-fashioned.

John Anderson Wall Street Journal In “Mid-Century Modern,” our heroes would never allow a hair to give away their age. But everything else is fodder for comedy. And much of it works. Mar 27, 2025 Full Review Matthew Creith TheWrap “Mid-Century Modern” is a play on the ensemble cast’s age and famous Palm Springs architecture, a fitting title for a sitcom about gay men of a certain age looking for love in all the wrong places. Mar 27, 2025 Full Review Laura Babiak Observer A multi-cam sitcom shot in front of a live audience with every episode clocking in at under 30 minutes, Mid-Century Modern is eager to scratch that nostalgic itch in your brain. Luckily, though, it’s not all stuck in the past. Mar 27, 2025 Full Review Chris Revelle Pajiba A show for boomers who want to be coddled with stale Reagan-era jokes but feel edgy doing it. Apr 2, 2025 Full Review Polly Conway Common Sense Media Mid-Century Modern has charm, but it may not be quite modern enough for 2025 audiences. Apr 2, 2025 Full Review Rob Owen Pittsburgh Tribune-Review Mid-Century Modern offers a mix of comedic zingers and groan-worthy gags that stars Matt Bomer, Nathan Lane, Nathan Lee Graham and Linda Lavin do their best to elevate... The show is at its funniest when Lavin enters to spar with one of her co-stars. Mar 31, 2025 Full Review Read all reviews

emily F This show I so cute! Made me laugh out loud several times per episode. Cast is awesome. Cameos galore which I love to see. Thought it looked kind of dumb, but gave it a shot and glad I did! I should have known as Nathan lane is just so perfect in everything. Hope it sticks around Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/16/25 Full Review Camila M Amazing cast! They can make anything entertaining Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/15/25 Full Review Jim R I agree the laugh track is annoying and makes me want to turn off the sound. Cute but feels like some sound guy is telling me when to laugh. Too bad I really want to enjoy Linda Lavin and Nathan Lane do their thing. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 04/11/25 Full Review Michael M The laugh track is very annoying Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/11/25 Full Review Robert Z With a 1970s TV sitcom aesthetic, note the laugh track, the cast is clearly living in the 2020s. The cast saves it. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/10/25 Full Review Chris B The show, featuring Matt Bomer, Nathan Lane, and Nathan Lee Graham, follows these three close friends of a certain age. The humor feels very fresh and 2025. After an unexpected death, they decide to spend their golden years living together in Palm Springs, where the wealthiest one (Nathan Lane) lives with his mother. The writing is just as iconic as the performers. Its humor is reminiscent of older sitcoms while still being relevant to modern times. The title fits perfectly! I watched all ten episodes, and I can’t remember the last time I laughed so hard. The show is not only funny but also deeply personal and filled with heart. Matt Bomer is amazing, and Nathan Lane is brilliant. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/08/25 Full Review Read all reviews
