      Season 1 – Modern Family

      2009 Comedy List
100% 29 Reviews Tomatometer 95% 500+ Ratings Audience Score Told from the perspective of an unseen documentary filmmaker, the series offers an honest, often-hilarious perspective of family life. Parents Phil and Claire yearn for an honest, open relationship with their three kids. But a daughter who is trying to grow up too fast, another who is too smart for her own good, and a rambunctious young son make it challenging. Claire's dad, Jay, and his Latina wife, Gloria, are raising two sons together, but people sometimes believe Jay to be Gloria's father. Jay's gay son, Mitchell, and his partner, Cameron, have adopted a little Asian girl, completing one big -- straight, gay, multicultural, traditional -- happy family. Luiz Felipe M Dude,i love this show so much,it makes you want to watch more & more,is very adictive and it's pretty cool to see them growing up and forming they'r family Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/15/24 Full Review Kelis F A great show to watch and even rewatch. The comedy is great and the love of the family makes it heartwarming. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/21/24 Full Review Raoul T I only started watching this show when it came out in syndication. I did not think I was going to like it when it first came out on ABC but I ended up watching an episode late at night. And it was laugh out loud funny. The entire cast is likable to various degrees but are all distinct. I mean their personalities are so different but they all mesh together really well. The jokes are hilarious and so are the situations that the characters find themselves in. And each group of characters seem to get equal time. They have their own adventures but they also interact a whole lot in different combinations. Probably one of my favorite sitcoms of all time. Maybe even my favorite even going back to the days where I used to watch the lineup of The Cosby Show / night Court / cheers back in the 80s. And maybe family ties was in there as well. Each of those shows was funny in its own right but together they formed a synergy that made Thursday nights laugh night. Individually I don't know how those old shows would make me laugh today but I think this show will still be funny in 10 years. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/14/23 Full Review Liam Y The first season of Modern Family was really well done. The cast was amazing and it was quite funny and enjoyable and each episode was very good Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 09/10/23 Full Review Toni P So I wanted to watch after seeing clips of Sophia. Now I have fallen for every character. This is a must watch after learning each character's identity. Don't laugh out loud much but this has me in stitches even when alone. Eric Deggans NPR Good acting. Great writing. Human characters played by amazing actors. That might be the one twist network TV hasn't tried quite often enough. Nov 21, 2019 Full Review Hugh Montgomery Independent (UK) It is lifted out of the ordinary by a steady stream of jagged quips; some wonderfully staged set pieces; and performances that struck a finely wrought balance between caricature and naturalism. Nov 7, 2018 Full Review Alice Jones Independent (UK) It ran as a series of vignettes whose punchlines were often not quite strong enough. Still, as with any sketch show, there were some hits among misses... I'd tune in again, just for Ty Burrell's "cool dad" Nov 7, 2018 Full Review Kevin Carr 7M Pictures Even when the show tries to get heartfelt and honest, it doesn't get preachy or annoying. It keeps its messages subtle and doesn't overdo any sort of normalcy. Rated: 4/5 Nov 7, 2018 Full Review Glen Chapman Den of Geek It's a very perceptive, charming and funny series featuring excellent writing and performances that should appeal to a wide audience.
