Nov 22, 2024 Full Review Samantha Schuster Cinéfilo Serial It's a powerful and raw series that gives us a deeper understanding of the Northern Ireland conflict. With nuanced characters, strong performances, and period drama, the story captivates, moves, and inspires viewers to reflect. Micah S I randomly picked up the book that this series was based on during a holiday one year (lol I know, not a vacation read really) and I found it so gripping. Even though it’s all true history, the author really transported you into the setting and the minds of the principal historical actors. I think the show has also done this very faithfully. If anything, we grow even closer and understand better the workings of these people’s minds, especially Doulours Price. The production and all the performances were really top-notch and by acting out the heists and the heists, abductions, bombings, etc. that the IRA members participated in the audience really gets to participate in that frenzied, rebellious spirit. However I do think there is one thing that this show is lacking. I remember at one point in the book the author diverged from the storyline of his main “characters” and delved into the story of the “14 days” - a particularly bloody time in the troubles where many people were murdered during funeral processions for IRA members. There is an extremely evocative picture in the book of a priest, Father Reid, bending down in the street and delivering the last rites to British occupying officers that were killed by the funeral attendees. That image really stuck with me. The book established the wider effects of the troubles on the general populace on the time. There were many descriptions of how bombings at shopping malls and in car parks would result in the killing of ordinary civilians. Although Jean McConville’s story is kept in to explore this theme, I don’t think that the average viewer would appreciate how the average citizen in Belfast or Derry or really anywhere in Ireland was just sick and weary of the violence, and also the state of fear that people existed in for so long. That broader context would have improved the story even more. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/09/25 Full Review Sean D Absolutely fantastic. Can't recommend enough Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/06/25 Full Review S K A great watch from start to finish. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/25/25 Full Review Gareth v A historical drama that’s gripping and deeply felt. Say Nothing does the hard work of showing how political conflict changes people, often in irreversible ways. It stumbles slightly under its ambition, but the storytelling & performances makes this a compelling watch. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/16/25 Full Review Avindu G The absence of any reasonable portrayal for the root causes of insurgencies is unforgivable. However the message for anyone willing is the lack of public discourse in the aftermath of a movement. It's a wonderful drama about how people sacrifice themselves for the land they were born in. Excellent casting to represent each person. Great performances by the cast. Excellent visuals and audio effects. A thrilling account of a struggle that's right next door to the empire. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/05/25 Full Review Bob J This is an interesting story, a good script, quality actors and the character development is entertaining. It started off a litte slowly for me, but the story built upon itself as the episodes wove their spider web of a story. It is a thought provoking series and I appreciated that the most about it.
