Socially awkward high school student Otis may not have much experience in the lovemaking department, but he gets good guidance on the topic in his personal sex ed course -- living with mom Jean, who is a sex therapist. Being surrounded by manuals, videos and tediously open conversations about sex, Otis has become a reluctant expert on the subject. When his classmates learn about his home life, Otis decides to use his insider knowledge to improve his status at school, so he teams with whip-smart bad girl Maeve to set up an underground sex therapy clinic to deal with their classmates' problems. But through his analysis of teenage sexuality, Otis realizes that he may need some therapy of his own.

Critics Consensus

As sweetly empathetic and inclusive as ever, Sex Education's final season serves as a bittersweet -- but largely satisfying -- farewell.

Tariq Ra'ouf AV Club Our favorite characters go through trials and tribulations that feel unnecessary, leaving us with a show that barely resembles what it looked like when it started. Jul 9, 2024 Full Review Rebecca Tucker Globe and Mail If its primarily legacy is the sheer breadth of its representation, Sex Education’s secondary impact could be drawing a functional blueprint for how to realistically, unsentimentally portray healing -- and hope. Sep 26, 2023 Full Review Noah Berlatsky Chicago Reader There aren’t a lot of television shows that make the world a better place by existing. Sex Education is one. Sep 22, 2023 Full Review Yasmine Kandil Discussing Film The final season of Sex Education is packed with this kind of emotional whiplash. At its worst, it seems as if these last episodes are a parody of the concise and trailblazing seasons that came before. Rated: 3.5/5 Sep 2, 2024 Full Review Romey Norton Film Focus Online Sex Education has been the feel-good, informative and sexually exploitative sensational series that we’ve all needed. This series is very grown-up and the final episodes round off the characters' stories to leave you feeling wholesome and satisfied. Rated: 4/5 Jul 22, 2024 Full Review Dónal Lynch Sunday Independent (Ireland) Its handling of “issues” is clunky – but it has a charming young cast and rollicks enjoyably along in this final outing. Pat B Like so many shows, Sex Education declined exponentially with each season. Season 1 was brilliant, and a must-see. By the time you get to Season 4, you're wondering why on earth you're still watching it. Far too many characters emerge on the screen, and each with far too little likability. But I'd highly recommend people watch the first season as it tells a cracking story, using good actors, to convey some important (and rarely heard) lessons to the audience. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/06/25 Full Review Jens B You can clearly see how the writers struggle to come up with new plot points. Everything seems so unnecessary, the actors seem bored, and so was I. I only watched five episodes of season four, it evolved into just being content for Netflix. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 12/01/24 Full Review Diego B So different to the others, our favorite characters go through trials and tribulations that feel unnecessary, is not "sex education" anymore is a love story gone wrong Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 11/07/24 Full Review Naitik B I rated it 4.5 because it had not made complete conclusion of " sex education ". Last episode had disappointed me . Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 11/07/24 Full Review Vanesa M Totalmente recomendable. Serie de adolescentes pero para todas las edades. Divertida, original, diversa, la primera temporada un descubrimiento y la última temporada sorprende de nuevo abordando otros temas, que maneja de forma inteligente. No te la pierdas, engancha Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/22/24 Full Review Shane P Sex Eduction was a fantastic, well acted sweet, slightly surreal series with some very endearing characters and always full of humour. Season 4 was anything but, most of the new characters went out of their way to be unlikeable and unbeliveable and the storyline was poor. The two lead actors became bit players in what seemed like an excercise in trying to fit as much inclusivity into the time as was possible. Where Heartstopper made the situations full of charm and tenderness and nailed it, Sex Education series 4 made it painful and grimacing. It is such a shame that what had been an excellent series ended on such a very dud note. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 09/02/24 Full Review Read all reviews
