What to Know

Critics Consensus

While Squid Game's return can't help but lose the element of surprise, some absolutely diabolical challenges and a knotty moral outlook keep this sophomore season thrilling.

Dan Einav Financial Times Hwang keeps these disparate moods finely balanced throughout, knowing when to revel in lurid thrills and when to reveal more of the ideas underpinning it all. Jan 16, 2025 Full Review Lili Loofbourow Washington Post Instead of building, Jun-ho’s plot languishes. Gi-hun’s arc gets blurry. Worst of all, the antagonist remains a cipher. Jan 9, 2025 Full Review Robert Lloyd Los Angeles Times Though I am not going to rewatch the first season for comparison, because life is short, my impression is that the new season has more of an emphasis on interpersonal relationships (good and bad) and team dynamics. Jan 4, 2025 Full Review Joe Lipsett Horror Queers Podcast The boat subplot aside, S02 is nearly as good as the first. Gi-hun's morals slipping under In-ho's influence is compelling and the new games, particularly the Pentathlon, are incredibly exciting. Bonus points for Gong Yoo's villainous turn Jan 31, 2025 Full Review Robert W. Butler Butler's Cinema Scene This time around, though, something’s off. The characters are painfully one-dimensional, less real people than symbols. Jan 26, 2025 Full Review Christian Gallichio The Playlist “Squid Game” has gone the way of the Hollywood blockbuster. A little louder, a little less interesting, but also fundamentally entertaining, even if it sometimes feels like leftovers. Rated: B Jan 24, 2025 Full Review Read all reviews

Seth E Absolutely awful, don't watch it. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/01/25 Full Review Renaldy M Season 2 for this series is completely disastrous. Abandon its core of this series premise which is the main character motive to survive in the game is for his daughter's sake. Complete the game 'til the end so that the main character can meet again to his daughter and got the right for his daughter. Added to that this season they're trying so hard to adopt some of other series or movie to make this season look cooler and awesome, but turned out it's horrendous. If there is 0 score, surely I will pick 0 score. Thank you. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/01/25 Full Review Bread C Again, still a great season. I don't know what the rest of these audience members are yapping about, but it was still a great season. It's hard to make a Squid Game season bad, but I think I liked the characters in this one a little more, and I still love the plot and story. I loved the different games. "I've played these games before!" Great work, and continue with the great work. Can't wait for season 3! God bless! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/28/25 Full Review Soham K It's season make me disappointment. Because your good friend make you fool (front man) I hate the season Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/24/25 Full Review Bella K I loved squid game so much hosnestley best thing I’ve ever watched I really love Thanos and I hope we are bring him back for season 3 !!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/22/25 Full Review av 8 Season Average: 8.714 Can anything be more humane than the instinct to actually save a stranger from the danger and hell we have been through? Or is the world too sadistic and selfish for that? Seong Gi-hun, affiably recalled as player 456 in both the game that took place three years ago, and the new one, is one such person who is willing to go to any end to stop this atrocity of Squid Game. With the stash of billions that he acquired through his previous agonizing victory put to benefit, Gi-hun is advertently tracking down the makers of the game and the Front man. But when it comes to an institution as prosperous and preposterous as this, what would the hideous masters behind the masks not do to have their way? Gi-hun and 455 other players are selected for the barbaric games again. Gi-hun tries his best to lead the players to the safe side with all his perseverance and might. While the "games" have become much more hooking personally, the pace tremendously slowed down, excruciatingly so throughout the voting processes, rendering it a lesser watch than season 1. There are novelties in the game now, favouring the participants greatly - only if it weren't for their endless avarice. The characters are weak, in the sense that despite being woven with complete justice, they get under your skin and on your nerves for the lack of action and survival skills. The characters are complete chickens, though the better suited word for them would be rather derogatory to be put out here. It surprises me how those that made this far at the end of the season actually did it. It ends on a cliff-hanger, though there remains only one virtuous way to wrap this up in the series finale. I must say, I did enjoy the episodes more than I did in the previous season on an individual basis because of the action and gore, and the ingenuity of the games; although the story has progressed nowhere after seven of them this time. What has been portrayed is simply bleak human emotions, death and betrayal, and the characters do not get anywhere close to how provoking those from the previous season were.
