Acclaimed actress Laura Linney stars in this comedy-drama as Minneapolis schoolteacher Cathy Jamison, whose reserved, structured way of life is turned upside down after she is diagnosed with terminal cancer. Gone are the days of pleasing everyone else; now, for the first time in her life, she is going to choose the path that most suits her needs. And that means, in part, telling her immature husband, spoiled son and outspoken brother to grow up. Cathy, meanwhile, wants to act up ... and along the way she forms new bonds with some unexpected people.

Phil Dyess-Nugent AV Club The Big C isn't the worst TV series I've ever watched from beginning to end, but I'm not sure the show itself even recognizes just how mean and self-satisfied it is at its core. Rated: C- Aug 5, 2020 Full Review Jonathan Pacheco Slant Magazine The series may no longer create the types of unique points of tension and humor it did in the first season, but its broader comedy benefits from the energy these guest stars bring to each episode. Rated: 2/4 Apr 8, 2012 Full Review Verne Gay Newsday The questions suddenly seem more interesting. Rated: B Apr 8, 2012 Full Review Matt Richenthal TV Fanatic This is a show that lost any semblance of direction. Rated: 2.9/5 Aug 5, 2020 Full Review Adam Newland TV Equals This show has gotten so preposterous that sometimes I forget that Laura Linney is a highly-credible actress with plenty of range. Aug 5, 2020 Full Review Tom Gliatto People Magazine The show's quirky unpredictability feels less like life's ongoing, authentic messiness than a creative muddle.
