An elite sniper, a master of disguise and a highly trained killer, the Jackal is an assassin, coldly carrying out hits for a fee. Following an attack on a high-profile and notorious politician, he's offered his riskiest job yet, one that could pay him enough to leave this life for good. But his work has attracted the attention of Bianca, a tenacious British intelligence officer, whose world-class expertise in firearms makes her the ideal candidate to hunt him down. What follows is a thrilling cat-and-mouse chase across Europe, as the Jackal works to carry out his new mission, while being pursued by Bianca. However, as the hunt continues and more casualties are caught in their crossfire, it becomes clear that there may be other forces pulling the strings. As both Bianca and the Jackal's personal lives clash with their work, they risk everything, pushing themselves to their limits with disastrous consequences.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

A globetrotting thriller made eerily plausible by Eddie Redmayne's reptilian performance, The Day of the Jackal turns dark deeds into good fun.

Esther Zuckerman New York Times If Redmayne’s portrayal of the Jackal is steeped in mystery, Lynch’s take on Bianca is a stirring mix of impulsivity and cunning. They are the twin engines propelling the plot. Nov 22, 2024 Full Review Wenlei Ma The Nightly (AU) A spy thriller for grown-ups. Nov 20, 2024 Full Review Camilla Long The Times (UK) I enjoyed some of this beautiful show — the soundtrack, credits, Redmayne’s performance, the luggage. Nov 18, 2024 Full Review Mini Anthikad-Chhibber The Hindu Eddie Redmayne as the skilled, shape-shifting assassin, and Bond girl Lashana Lynch go toe-to-toe in 10 episodes of breathless intensity May 17, 2025 Full Review Abhishek Srivastava The Times of India The storyline itself isn't groundbreaking, but it's the execution and performances that truly elevate it. Rated: 4/5 Jan 31, 2025 Full Review Steve Murray ArtsATL Redmayne has the cool, intelligent charisma to make us forget that his character is a serial killer; the show puts us on as slippery a moral slope as Silence of the Lambs did, when we found ourselves rooting for Hannibal Lecter. Movie Fan M The story is very compelling as we are drawn into the life and background of a world class shooter, who has become dark and sinister, and totally jaded on life from his prior military experience. The pursuit of the assassin builds tension and intrigue as he stays one step ahead. The story breaks down in later episodes, which stretch the credibility of the story too thin and make the viewer wish that the story had ended on episode 7, instead of episode 10, where there was still an element of intrigue to maintain pace and attention. In the end we are left with a story, with no feeling for the characters, cast into a sea of implausibility and relieved that there are no more episodes. Let's hope that the Peacock network has the good sense to not pursue a season 2. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 07/03/25 Full Review Jeremy W One of the best series in years. Kept me glued. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/01/25 Full Review George D The series starts off strong but loses credibility once the main character breaks his code—it happens too quickly for someone with a military background, making it feel unearned. Tracking down the weapons maker also seems oddly easy, as if everyone on the street knows who he is, which kills the suspense. On top of that, the MI9 agent’s family, fully aware her marriage is just a cover, still labels her a bad wife and mother. Meanwhile, the Jackal’s wife is stuck in constant indecision with little emotional build-up. These plotlines either need more depth or should be streamlined to keep the story coherent and engaging. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/11/25 Full Review Rév O I started watching this because I just wanted to watch something while working, something that plays in the background, but soon realized it was not just an action series. The story is gripping, the lead actor absolutely kills the performance, and the pacing is amazing. And when you watch a show like this you expect is to end one way or the other, I am glad to say that the ending caught me off guard, it was really good story telling. The wife's character is annoying, because I could not relate to her in any way whatsoever. In conclusion, this is a fantastic show, and you should consider watching it! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/08/25 Full Review B T one of the best series in my life incredible Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/02/25 Full Review Jaimie J Very entertaining and exciting show. A bit far fetched, and the casting for the MI6 agent is absurd - she looks like a primary school teacher, yet we are to believe she is a crack secret agent? But, if you can get passed this, the series is very entertaining, with lots of varied and interesting locations. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/01/25 Full Review Read all reviews
