What to Know

Critics Consensus

Grabbing onto thorny moral questions with its bare hands, The Last of Us' second season is a challenging expansion that retains its predecessor's superb performances and verisimilitude.

Dominic Baez Seattle Times The pieces are there, but they’re scattered, unable to form something truly memorable. Jun 10, 2025 Full Review Mark Kermode Kermode and Mayo's Take (YouTube) The chemistry between Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal is magnificent... their dynamic has been the heart of the show. May 22, 2025 Full Review Wenlei Ma The Nightly (AU) Often these middle seasons can feel like a weigh station, an impatient stopover until the meat of the work in the final act but The Last of Us gifts the audience with many sublime moments that make it more than worthwhile in the meantime. Apr 22, 2025 Full Review Allison Rose FlickDirect The Last of Us: Season 2 blends heart and horror, delivering gripping storytelling, rich performances, and stunning technical precision. Rated: 4.5/5 Oct 8, 2025 Full Review Jeff Beck The Blu Spot Season two of The Last of Us may run only seven episodes and have a slightly slower pace than its freshman outing, but it remains an excellent step forward for what has been quite an incredible adaptation of the popular video game series. Sep 22, 2025 Full Review Jared Mobarak Hey, Have You Seen ...? It really digs into the nature of one side’s freedom fighters being the other side’s terrorists. The more you stop seeing your enemy as a human with the exact same impulses and motives as you, the less human you become. Rated: 8/10 Jul 18, 2025 Full Review Read all reviews

Roman P The game is so much better than the second season. The writers decided to make one of the most bada$$ characters into a silly teenager. Ellie is supposed to be single minded in her quest for revenge. Not whatever I just watched. If they were going to change the tone of the second game so much. They should have just kept Joel alive and wrote something completely original. The first season was fantastic. Don't bother watching the second. Leave yourself wanting more. You will be much happier if you don't watch the second season. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/18/25 Full Review Sal K Just like the game, season 2 has been completely slaughtered by the writing. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 11/14/25 Full Review Jameson R I concede that my hopes were perhaps too high for this second season, for which I had eagerly awaited. It was undeniably a bit of a let down, but it was not without it's redeeming qualities: a breath-taking action set piece featuring an infected horde storming a stronghold was a feast for the eyes, Isabela Merced was a welcome breath of fresh air as Dina, and Pedro Pascal while criminally absent for much of the season, still delivers an absolutely heart-wrenchingly raw powerful performance as Joel. I'm kind of tired of seeing Pascal every time I turn around, but damn is he good in this. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 11/11/25 Full Review Youssef A Really disappointed They ruined a lot of things, and the worst of all they ruined Ellie's character. Mazin really, really misunderstands Ellie. They made her into this goofy, incompetent, vulnerable girl as if she wasn't one of the most ruthless characters in the game. I hate how Ellie took Dina being pregnant completely fine which was completely different in the game. I genuinely felt like closing the episode early when I heard Ellie saying "I'm gonna be a dad", they really ruined her. They ruined Abby as well, first (SPOILER ALERT) she drops out the reason why she killed Joel early, which makes you sympathize a bit with her unlike in the game where it was halfway through the playthrough. This may sound weird but I also hate how they didn't make her buff, you may ask why but Abby being buff is one of the most important detail about her, because it shows how she transformed from an innocent firefly to a killing machine. It also was so cringy when she said "You actually are really handsome" to the guy that literally murdered her father. No one does that. Overall there were a few good scenes and episodes but the other bad scenes are too overwhelming. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 11/06/25 Full Review Bear B. If I could give it 0 stars I would. Season one was fantastic, and then there was season 2. Killing off a main character who was the only person with likability in the first episode, combined with sheer Boredom from the rest of the time spent on the show made it impossible to even finish the season…season 1 made it one of the best shows out, then season 2 made it one of the worst…don’t waste your time at all!! Rated 1 out of 5 stars 10/30/25 Full Review Vim D I watched the entire second season in about two hours just to find out how it ends. What a shame to write such a terrible second season after such a great first season. The writing was so bad that the acting could only be pathetic too.
