What to Know

Critics Consensus

Grabbing onto thorny moral questions with its bare hands, The Last of Us' second season is a challenging expansion that retains its predecessor's superb performances and verisimilitude.

Dominic Baez Seattle Times The pieces are there, but they’re scattered, unable to form something truly memorable. Jun 10, 2025 Full Review Mark Kermode Kermode and Mayo's Take (YouTube) The chemistry between Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal is magnificent... their dynamic has been the heart of the show. May 22, 2025 Full Review Wenlei Ma The Nightly (AU) Often these middle seasons can feel like a weigh station, an impatient stopover until the meat of the work in the final act but The Last of Us gifts the audience with many sublime moments that make it more than worthwhile in the meantime. Apr 22, 2025 Full Review Jared Mobarak Hey, Have You Seen ...? It really digs into the nature of one side’s freedom fighters being the other side’s terrorists. The more you stop seeing your enemy as a human with the exact same impulses and motives as you, the less human you become. Rated: 8/10 Jul 18, 2025 Full Review Louis Skye (Ronita Roy Mohan) Stereo Geeks (Podcast) Season 2 took it to a whole new level with the characters. We already know this world, so here’s some more danger. You think the infected are scary? No, how about real people and the monsters they are? That’s what I loved about Season 2. Jul 17, 2025 Full Review Zosha Millman Polygon The Last of Us season 2 is a much-needed expansion on the story of The Last of Us Part 2, with a particularly strong characterization for the core players of the season. eduardo t A very dissappointing season, Ellie's character is heavily infantilized, she's less mature than season 1 and less capable or smart, it was so amazing how she saved Joel and took care of him for so long when he was injured and a total let down how she was not useful in this season, she didnt know how to read a map! The writters surely want the audience to hate her character, unfortunately this is at the expense of Bella Ramsey, who i think has so much more potential than what she was allowed to show here. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 07/19/25 Full Review jacques k Didn't enjoy it at all. It felt completely different from series one. What made series one was the adventures and relationship between the two main characters. This time around the relationship and adventures between Bella and her friend was boring, it went on and on. Towards the last couple of episodes it felt unbelievable and disjointed even rushed. Each episode in series one was a great story in its own right. I don't think I'll bother watching series3. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/18/25 Full Review Timothy M Season 1 was was enjoyable....had a couple episodes that were a little slow - but in general, it was a fun, unpredictable, and enjoyable show. Season 2 - I stopped watching it after the 4th episode....completely boring waste of time. I understand the need to make a show unpredictable - but killing off the main character, the person the show revolved around (yes, the Ellie character is also a main character - but not the type of personality that can carry the show), makes absolutely no sense....everything I watched after he was removed was completely boring and unenjoyable....I have no idea how season 2 ends - because I couldn't stomach it anymore. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 07/18/25 Full Review Dane E My half star says it all. Just plain bad. A terrible plot shift. Just bad. Watch it and see for yourself. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 07/18/25 Full Review Erick M Almost unsubscribed from Max after this. I thought rollercoasters had steep drops, but this wins easily, the craziest decline in quality I’ve ever seen from a show. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 07/17/25 Full Review Pranoy R Damn.. after ep 3 I lost it.. stopped watching it... I haven't played the game but the series is very very sloppy....
