What to Know

Critics Consensus

Grabbing onto thorny moral questions with its bare hands, The Last of Us' second season is a challenging expansion that retains its predecessor's superb performances and verisimilitude.

Dominic Baez Seattle Times The pieces are there, but they’re scattered, unable to form something truly memorable. Jun 10, 2025 Full Review Mark Kermode Kermode and Mayo's Take (YouTube) The chemistry between Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal is magnificent... their dynamic has been the heart of the show. May 22, 2025 Full Review Wenlei Ma The Nightly (AU) Often these middle seasons can feel like a weigh station, an impatient stopover until the meat of the work in the final act but The Last of Us gifts the audience with many sublime moments that make it more than worthwhile in the meantime. Apr 22, 2025 Full Review Zosha Millman Polygon The Last of Us season 2 is a much-needed expansion on the story of The Last of Us Part 2, with a particularly strong characterization for the core players of the season. Jun 18, 2025 Full Review Lindsay Press Culturess For a season that presents itself as leading up to a massive confrontation between Ellie and Abby, it never actually gets there. May 28, 2025 Full Review Giovanni Lago Next Best Picture Purely from the lens of someone who consumes plenty of television, it’s a season that feels unfinished and unearned. Sadly, I’m not excited to see how everything else will probably be butchered in the upcoming third season. Rated: 4/10 May 27, 2025 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member This season flopped everything they builded on the first Season, like seriously, Episode 6 is one of the worst episodes of a show i've ever seen, i almost sleeped, that didn't happened to me since Game of Thrones season 2 Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 07/08/25 Full Review Hk b Décor et musique de la série qui sont incroyables rien à dire par contre le scénario totalement bâclé des incohérences sur la timeline du deuxième jeu des passages au début qui brise tout le suspense des acteurs totalement détestable comment ils ont pu se planter autant alors que le matériel de base est incroyable c'est dommage les gens qui ne connaissent pas le jeu vont avoir un avis très négatif sur celui-ci alors que c'est un jeu incroyable qui te fait poser énormément de questions sur la nature humaine mais malheureusement c'est bâclé dans la série et j'en attends rien de la partie 2 de la saison 2 puisque malheureusement tout le suspense et l'intrigue ont été totalement gâché par la première partie malheureusement Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/07/25 Full Review Ryan M Season one did a great job of expanding parts of the first game and taking us on an incredible journey with Joel and Ellie. Season two somehow completely missed the mark and I'm still processing it. So many layers were stripped away from the main characters, key turning points where mis-uderstood, and the order in which information was revealed was so different I felt like it robbed the audience of having any chance to try to figure out what is happening on their own. Every story beat felt spoon fed to us. The most frustrating for me was Ellies character, who is unrecognizable in the second season. She's acting like a child, and not someone who's father figure was just murdered in front of her. There is no growth or change from season one, and you feel no urgency with her desire to get revenge. I also really hated how "stupid" they made her character, it's so upsetting. Ellie is incredible smart, crafty, and strong. Mentally and physically. The other characters know this and respect her in the game, but in the show they treat her like an actual child. I feel like so much of her character was stripped away, and I still can't figure out why the show did this. Why would they take the source material that had incredibly strong characters and then water them down? I don't think I'll ever understand. I'm completely aware adaptations are going to be different then the games, season one made a ton of changes but it still felt like it understood the core themes of the original story. But this second season went in a direction I just can't get behind. I had to go back to play the game to remind myself how incredible Ellie and Abby's story arcs are. I truly hope everyone plays or at least watches the The Last Of Us Part 2 on youtube and gets a chance to experience that masterpiece. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 07/07/25 Full Review Mark B Remarkably bad writing in Season 2, at least for the first two episodes, after what was a pretty great Season 1. Rolling my eyes bad: hard to believe someone was paid to write such bad script. Struggled to get through the first two episodes; waste of time, no interest in watching any more. Pity: Season 1 was quite good. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 07/07/25 Full Review TheNewJackie O Turning zombies into white walkers v3.0 for season two was my largest disappointment. Why are they faster with age? Doesn't that directly contradict the way cordyceps take over a human body? If you want to make a fantasy world believeable, it has to stay consistent. You can't alter it without explanation. Again though, set design and story-telling were untouchable. The touchpoints to key video game scenes were fantastic. I don't think Abby or Ellie were cast correctly for season 2, but I am hoping season 3 will make me eat those words. I am invested in this show for the long haul. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/07/25 Full Review zinger305 r They ruined it. I was really looking forward for season 2 but it's absolute garbage, Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 07/07/25 Full Review Read all reviews
