What to Know

Critics Consensus

Grabbing onto thorny moral questions with its bare hands, The Last of Us' second season is a challenging expansion that retains its predecessor's superb performances and verisimilitude.

Wenlei Ma The Nightly (AU) Often these middle seasons can feel like a weigh station, an impatient stopover until the meat of the work in the final act but The Last of Us gifts the audience with many sublime moments that make it more than worthwhile in the meantime. Apr 22, 2025 Full Review Eric Deggans NPR The show's producers seem to delight in presenting situations which look like one thing, only to shift the dynamic as circumstances change and new facts emerge, like turning a crystal in a shaft of light. Apr 17, 2025 Full Review Melanie McFarland Salon.com Trust that this show’s devotion to its characters’ humanity makes the horrors hit harder. Apr 17, 2025 Full Review Rachel Ho Exclaim! Expanding the world with nuance and visual richness, Season 2 steps up the game with tremendous action scenes and even better performances. May 19, 2025 Full Review Tatat Bunnag Bangkok Post The series continues to strike an incredible balance between action, psychological complexity and human emotion. It honours the legacy of the video games while adding even greater nuance through the medium of television. May 8, 2025 Full Review Jeff Ewing That Hashtag Show "There are ample sources of drama, and if one knows the games it’s clear that monumental things are going to happen (though it’s a matter of when and how). It’s off to a solid start." Rated: 8.5/10 Apr 24, 2025 Full Review Read all reviews

Omar P I understand making changes from the source material, but please make it better! Unfortunately the changes have been worse and the biggest error was completely getting rid of Tommy’s revenge storyline, wow! Destroyed the entire season for me! I still can’t understand how they omitted his storyline. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 05/20/25 Full Review Audience Member The buildup with Abby was incredibly disappointing, ultimately coming across as childish, and her words fail to reflect her supposed hatred. It's no surprise that Hollywood continues to avoid casting actual bodybuilders as actresses, especially when they seem intent on pushing an unnecessary narrative after episode three. My partner and I were done with the series. Joel’s death lacks any real significance in this show. Nothing is taken seriously, and I was appalled that they decided to stick with a child to portray Ellie. Tommy is a complete joke. Pedro was the only reason we kept watching, but it turned out to be for nothing. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 05/20/25 Full Review Michael M Feels like the writing fell off a bit. The time dedicated to pushing the dynamic between Ellie and Joel did not need to be 3 episodes long. The guitar and singing seem like a far cry from the first season. Just disappointed with the season. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 05/20/25 Full Review SHAR M creo que iba bien la serie pero en ocasiones omiten o no recrean bien los momentos mas impactantes del videojuego Rated 1 out of 5 stars 05/20/25 Full Review Sean K I loved the game and I love the series. The actor playing Ellie is incredible. Dina as well. This silly game and now the show brings me to tears at times. I have never felt a kinship with a game or the actors that bring those characters to life like this one. Thanks to naughty dog and the wonderful people associated with this for the imagination and writing. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/20/25 Full Review Jeremy W Exceeds expectations. Brilliant counterpoint in season 2 of gut wrenching human emotion and unemotional violence in an emotionless post apocalypse world. Great acting all round.
