What to Know

Critics Consensus

Jeff Bridges and John Lithgow remain a compulsively watchable pair, but there's a nagging sense that The Old Man has lost a step in this overextended sophomore season.

Audience Member Season 1 was taught and tense. Season 2 was the exact opposite sadly, after such anticipation. I got the family building bit in Afghanistan the first few episodes as being necessary, but quite soon after, the script and dialogue became woolly and irritating and the plot potentially good, but totally under utilised, The dialogue got to the point I'd mentally ask characters to STFU. For the best it's been cancelled. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 12/30/24 Full Review Steve B Another great series cancelled before its time. This deserved a third season. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/28/24 Full Review Alan B Stunning. Season 2 really begins to make sense of the whole story. Its so rare to see a believable and mature story of espionage and skulduggery that its a major disappointment to find out that there will be no season 3. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/24/24 Full Review Mr. Beans R After a great first season season two is a huge let down it looks like they didn't think they'd get a second season and the story went off course, still better then most modern tv I'd recommend it to people who've seen season one and want a conclusion to the arc not to new viewers Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 12/21/24 Full Review Chris F I love this series. It is so smartly constructed compared to your typical spy action drama. The different layers that "the old man" represents is great. Which old man? Jeff Bridges, John Lithgow, Hamzad's character, Mogan Boat? They can all come into play. Also the mirroring of the father / daughter perspectives across time is fascinating to me. My only complaint is the Zoe character which feels out of place to me. Just doesn't quite fit. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/13/24 Full Review Jack W Really disappointed. Dialogue that sounds deep and insightful, but is just bad. It’s too slow and suffers from what has become a cliche for a lot of shows, Nothing happens until the last ten minutes of each episode. It shows a lack of respect for the audience, like we can’t tell that it’s full of filler. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 12/09/24 Full Review Read all reviews
