What to Know

Critics Consensus

Jeff Bridges and John Lithgow remain a compulsively watchable pair, but there's a nagging sense that The Old Man has lost a step in this overextended sophomore season.

daniel g Guess most of the voting audience are 13 years old kids unable to sit still more than 2 mins and to follow a story from the beginning to its end, I'm getting slowly tired of Marvel spoon-fed people pushing networks and producers to release the same old mediocre-pleases-all narratives. I really enjoyed the slow pace of the show. The actors are great for the most part (Bridges is indeed a bit underwhelming in this season) and the plot is a bit far-fetched at time but still believable enough. And the mix between a political thriller and old men reminiscing and questioning the meaning of their past dedication to duty is a pleasant change of approach to the old spy thriller. Well, another original , well-executed series getting the axe because people rather watch a 14th season of a mediocre superhero/drama and romance in an hospital TV show.... Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/22/25 Full Review General P I'm actually surprised to see such a low audience score. I mean I will admit it kind of drags some time. And while dragging also being intense. So you just feel this intense dread. But I always felt the solutions all come out strong. Like it's constantly a long build up for anything, even a character making a pivotal decision, but when they make it and show their true selves, or do something cool, it's definitely worth it. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/18/25 Full Review Sahkeenah A I was very interested to see where this was going to go. The acting was top notch and plot storyline was intriguing. Sad that I won't get to see more. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/13/25 Full Review Michael T Season 2 moves the story along well, it lives up to season 1, and sets up season 3 nicely. Unfortunately FX has decided to cancel the series, which is truly disappointing, because the old man is great TV. Bridges and Lithgow are amazing, and with little cameo's from Joel Grey, it literally is Hollywood legends, and for it to end here is a bitter pill. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/11/25 Full Review Craig B The Old Man is a fantastic series. Jeff Bridges is superb in the lead role and is admirably supported by a solid cast. Even in its 'slower' moments, the intensity is within touching distance. The action is gritty and realistic, and there's plenty of it. A shame there is no series 3. IMPORTANT NOTE: If you don't want to be teased with the promise of a 3rd series that will never materialise, don't watch the last 2 minutes of the final episode of series 2... essentially from the end of the diner scene. Those couple of minutes set up for a 3rd series... Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/17/25 Full Review John M Loved this show. Such a shame it's been cancelled.
