What to Know

Critics Consensus

Twilight of the Gods delivers on the godly carnage it promises with vivid animation, although its commitment to Ragna-rocking all the time saps some of its emotional depth.

Nandini Balial RogerEbert.com Whatever you’re looking for from your next adult animation binge—profundity, thrills, shock—you’re not likely to find it from Zack Snyder. Sep 20, 2024 Full Review Angie Han Hollywood Reporter As a work simply to be looked at, it’s a thing of beauty. Alas, as one to get emotionally invested in, it’s rather more lacking. Sep 19, 2024 Full Review Niv M. Sultan Slant Magazine The series evokes the historical and literary contours of Norse mythology to explore the power of storytelling. Rated: 3.5/4 Sep 19, 2024 Full Review Callie Hanna FandomWire Twilight of the Gods is deeply imperfect and often meandering, but it's overall a pretty fun ride. [Full review in Spanish] Oct 5, 2024 Full Review Johnny Loftus Decider Twilight of the Gods happily gets lusty and bloodsoaked as it explores the tenets and characters of Norse mythology, with a strong sense of adventure to go with its weaving of fact, fable, and director Zack Snyder’s signature style. Andrew W Masterful storytelling and characterisation matched to some breathtaking animation. A real folk tale that brings Norse mythology into the 21st Century with a bang. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/08/24 Full Review Tevyn M It's anime for people who think they are too cool to watch anime or think that anime is lame. Its serviceable for those people but if you're looking for a good animated show, you aren't going to find it here. Unfortunately I'm not aware of any Norse mythology anime, let alone good ones. But you could Try Vinnland Saga or Record of Ragnarok which are two much better series. I also think the art style of this show is horrendous. Makes the show feel low budget and tacky. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 10/05/24 Full Review Dilrukshi P Finally an accurate depiction of the Norse Mythology. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/03/24 Full Review Jinendra D Interesting take on the Norse Mythology. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/03/24 Full Review Jinendra D It was a fun program, however the early episodes were a little too quick for my tastes. I would have preferred a slower pace to adequately explain the people and their characteristics, rather than having only one scene to do so. The brutality was brilliantly done and vicious, and the conflicts were high-stakes and rather stressful. The characters were engaging, and I found myself rooting for them and feeling sorry when they died. For example, I liked the portrayal of Thor since it was unique and akin to God of War. Ragnarok was a genuine and intriguing picture of the deity, who was easy to despise. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/03/24 Full Review Sashan D It's a beautiful take on Norse mythology that stays true to the legends. Thor is unforgivingly cruel, but Loki is cunning and expertly portrayed. The animation style is unique and the best I've seen thus far. The designers of Oggy and the Cockroaches, 'Xilam Animations,' developed a new form of 2D animation that is both clean and appealing. The world is immersive and lovely. The people and story are amusing and intriguing. Excellent voice acting. The characters of Sigrid, Leif, Thor, and Loki are sufficiently developed. The other supporting characters shine during the journey. Despite the fact that the show had four different directors, the story's flow was consistently excellent. Eric Carrasco's writing is excellent. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/03/24 Full Review Read all reviews
