Angie Han Hollywood Reporter The series, created by Adam and Craig Malamut, does reveal occasional glimmers of a potential to become something more distinctive... But such moments are spread too thin over the course of a 13-episode first season better described as fine than fun. Sep 10, 2024 Full Review Aramide Tinubu Variety While the premise is interesting enough, the show is stuffed with tiresome jokes that fail to pack a punch. Sep 10, 2024 Full Review Marty Brown Common Sense Media Comedy-wise, the series aims for crude laughs (and casual racism) reminiscent of Family Guy, but without the absurdist boundary pushing that made Family Guy take off. Sep 18, 2024 Full Review Joel Keller Decider Simply put: Universal Basic Guys is a deeply unfunny show. And when it’s not funny, then all of the other problems the show has are amplified. Sep 11, 2024 Full Review Rob Owen Pittsburgh Tribune-Review My assumption is creators/brothers Adam and Craig Malamut just wanted an excuse to refer to the characters as “basic,” which fits. Greg B This show is hilarious, and it's sad it's getting panned for boring political reasons left and right. If you like Archer, Family Guy, Bordertown (another great show smashed by reviews), you'll love this. Dang, all these people just watching shows to see if it perfectly fits with their exact political checklist of the moment. Give this a chance if you like adult animated shows—it's well written and the voice acting is great. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/02/24 Full Review Matt E Absolutely laugh out loud funny. My wife and i were laughing so hard at the first few episodes. If you have ever been with anyone l from New Jersey/Philly area, you will immediately recognize the accent. The premise is hilarious, and we really enjoyed the writing. Looking forward to more. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/24/24 Full Review kat face k The only thing I can say good about this cartoon is that it's slightly better than Velma (which is why it didn't get a .5) Everything else, and I mean everything just fails so hard... animation style, the "jokes", the characters... It's just a hot mess. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 09/20/24 Full Review Audience Member Easy to watch- like cartoon comfort food. Laughed out loud a few times each episode which I rarely do on other animated shows. Looking forward to seeing more Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/19/24 Full Review Jason J I don't know if they're aiming for a low-key family guy/simpsons mix or what, but it's a complete miss. There were 1 or 2 kinda funny scenes in the 2 episodes I watched but nothing actually good. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 09/16/24 Full Review Jen P It’s hilarious, but if you didn’t grow up in Philly/Delco/South Jersey, you aren’t going to appreciate it…..if you did grow up in the Philly tri-state area and moved away, you are going to immensely love it…..perfect accents. Right vibe. People may hate it now, but eventually everyone is going to grow to love the Philadelphia humor that seems to be deeply embedded. I would have given it 5, but the first episode had too much to set up! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 09/14/24 Full Review Read all reviews
