Angie Han The Hollywood Reporter The series, created by Adam and Craig Malamut, does reveal occasional glimmers of a potential to become something more distinctive... But such moments are spread too thin over the course of a 13-episode first season better described as fine than fun. Sep 10, 2024 Full Review Aramide Tinubu Variety While the premise is interesting enough, the show is stuffed with tiresome jokes that fail to pack a punch. Sep 10, 2024 Full Review Tara Ariano Cracked The show makes its first smart choice by not belaboring its high-concept premise. Rated: B- Dec 19, 2024 Full Review Marty Brown Common Sense Media Comedy-wise, the series aims for crude laughs (and casual racism) reminiscent of Family Guy, but without the absurdist boundary pushing that made Family Guy take off. Sep 18, 2024 Full Review Joel Keller Decider Simply put: Universal Basic Guys is a deeply unfunny show. And when it’s not funny, then all of the other problems the show has are amplified. Sep 11, 2024 Full Review Rob Owen Pittsburgh Tribune-Review My assumption is creators/brothers Adam and Craig Malamut just wanted an excuse to refer to the characters as “basic,” which fits. Rusty R I was actually finished watching a NFL game and this was after it. I've only watched one episode and it was actually pretty funny. I watched episode 10 from season one called, 'Mark Men.' I'd definitely recommend this show! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/20/24 Full Review Stephen B I look forward to this show every week. The characters are funny, their accents are funny. I don't usually get into too many comedies but UBG is fun and original. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/16/24 Full Review Ammar A Favorite adult animation show Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/15/24 Full Review George D This is a pretty great show with a dynamic between the two main characters that makes for some entertaining episodes. The show is shaky right now, with a big quality difference in certain episodes. But what show isn’t a bit wonky during its first season? Krapopolis started out iffy and became a very entertaining show with characters that have their own evolving motives and plot points. This show hasn’t had its chance to even shine yet. Honestly I just felt obligated to post this review after seeing Rotten Tomatoes only had five “professional” reviewers check this show out. And as per usual, all the “professional” reviewers are sticks in the mud thinking critically about every little aspect of the show and not allowing themselves to just sit down and enjoy a couple dumb laughs. The comparisons to Family Guy are also extremely unfair as Family Guy has dominated the adult animated comedy genre since the 90’s so of course new shows may seem a bit like it, but that’s just so untrue with this show. It feels nothing like Family Guy. It has no cutaway gags, its humor is adult but not crude at all, and there is usually a wholesome message behind every misadventure. There’s a dynamic between the brothers with Mark being the one that is good with his words and making people believe his lies, always coming up with quick schemes for fame or fortune. While Hank is just a simple guy, living life and supporting his brother, while at the same time acting as a moral compass for him at times when he needs it most. Mark can be a bit insufferable to watch as a character, but his ignorance is part of the comedy. They’re trying to entertain you in a new format that isn’t crude jokes, cutaways, or other whacky plot devices. This is an evolving universe that the show takes place in, just as grounded in reality as it is fantasy. Tell me that one of the Rotten Tomatoes professional reviewers would actually take time to write out a solid thorough review like this, they wouldn’t. They watch a show, either call it drivel or call it the next best thing since sliced bread, and then they call it good and never touch it again. A 20% on the tomato meter is criminal for this show, and it’s because y’all only have five official reviewers that have reviewed this show. The audience score is much more telling of the actual quality of this show at the moment. It is much more accurate than the tomato meter at the moment. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/10/24 Full Review Audience Member This show is hilarious. Entertained by Eastbound & Down, Summer Heights High etc? This is up your alley. Every bro out there should be watching this. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/09/24 Full Review Audience Member This show is hilarious. Hank's character is unfathomably stupid and always in a great mood which tickles me silly. It's not politically correct at all, which is why people have their panties in a bunch about it. I've watched it through 3 times already and new episodes are still coming out... Even my friend that hates animated shows thinks it's hilarious!
