Six months after the death of his friend and partner Sherlock Holmes at the hands of Moriarty, Dr. John Watson resumes his medical career as the head of a clinic dedicated to treating rare disorders. Watson's old life isn't done with him, though -- Moriarty and Watson are set to write their own chapter of a story that has fascinated audiences for more than a century. "Watson" is a medical show with a strong investigative spine, featuring a modern version of one of history's greatest detectives as he turns his attention from solving crimes to solving medical mysteries.

Critics Consensus

Transplanting Sherlock Holmes lore into a medical procedural, Watson conceit proves an awkward fit but gets a boost from the ever-watchable Morris Chestnut.

Nina Metz Chicago Tribune Chestnut has considerable screen charisma, but he can’t overcome the weak scripts. Rated: 1.5/4 Feb 12, 2025 Full Review Kelly Lawler USA Today A patient-of-the-week drama gets crashed together with this half-hearted Sherlock mythology and the wheels fall right off. Rated: 1.5/4 Jan 29, 2025 Full Review Robert Lloyd Los Angeles Times What we get is, more or less, a warmer, fuzzier version of “House.” Jan 29, 2025 Full Review Joel Keller Decider Watson jams Holmesian mythology, quirky doctors, and complex medical mysteries into stories that can’t really handle all three at once, and it shows in how none of it feels well thought-out. Jan 29, 2025 Full Review Rob Owen Pittsburgh Tribune-Review The show’s serialized story about a figure from Holmes’ past who’s out to get him intrigues, but that’s secondary to the less interesting “doc-tectives” resolving medical cases. Jan 27, 2025 Full Review Randy Dankievitch Processed Media Watson‘s pilot holds a few twinkles of promise in its opening and closing acts, suggestions that while it may struggle when leading with its trite medical and interpersonal dramas, there’s potential for a more adventurous, thoughtful show. Debra M I don’t get this show it is so boring not easy to follow I have to watch twice to get it. The actors don’t flow. This is the worst series I have seen Morris Chestnut appear. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/11/25 Full Review Alex H The show is basically house but instead caring to make a genuine mystery they just don't. Characters are okay, the actor for Watson is great, overall plot is being spread thin in the guise of suspense, writing is half hearted. One episode they look at a guys tongue, say he might have cancer, that guy does, then someone remembers a cadavers tongue from a decade ago and try to find his family. They find the son with a neck mass, run complicated tests for cancer and turns out to just be an abscess. The entire event was so stupid and illogical, based off memories, hunches and a basis that no doctor can run a simple test. Thankfully Sherlock Holmes is dead so he doesn't have to watch this. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/05/25 Full Review D R Love the show!! I had to get past the first episode as it was kinda cheesy, but most shows first episodes are due to weird introductions etc. Now I love it. really good concept. Morris is a great lead it Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/05/25 Full Review Dennis N I was amazed how bad of a show this is, zero chemistry between characters, no coherent plot I can see. Definitely will not be watching in the future Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/03/25 Full Review Jane L It’s exactly like House, but the characters are boring & I lost interest after the 2nd episode Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/01/25 Full Review Andrew H It's House + Sherlock, and produced like a "blue sky" USA show. Not much new or interesting here, but as Holmes reimaginings go, it's not the worst. And it's somehow much more authentic to its Pittsburgh setting than HBO's "The Pitt."
