Kylie Northover The Age (Australia) American mobster drama The Sopranos, which began 25 years ago this year, inspired a new generation of cinematic-style television, but as this fascinating two-part documentary from director Alex Gibney reveals, it began with low expectations. Rated: 5/5 Sep 12, 2024 Full Review Keith Watson Daily Telegraph (UK) This was fun even for a non-Soprano diehard as the sliding doors of casting fate played out. Rated: 4/5 Sep 11, 2024 Full Review Melanie McFarland Salon.com It’s the type of examination that reminds the audience of why the show was great by playing with its pop culture psychoanalytical themes and delivering the rosy remembrances fans want. Sep 10, 2024 Full Review Chuck Bowen Style Weekly (Richmond, VA) “Wise Guy” gives you all the production gossip that you can hope for from a behind-the-scenes feature, and imbues it with a sense of Pyrrhic victory and tragedy. Sep 13, 2024 Full Review Joel Keller Decider Wise Guy: David Chase And The Sopranos provides a lot of insight into what made Chase tick and what went into the creation of the landmark series. Sep 11, 2024 Full Review Jake Tropila In Review Online Wise Guy might not make for the most illuminating of watches... but for anyone itching to dip their toes back into the murky waters of America’s favorite crime family, there are plenty of delights to be found. Patti C For the Soprano’s fan!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/11/24 Full Review Kathy M I Get it Now, The Ending is Perfect Now 🥰 I'm watching it All Again 🥰 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/09/24 Full Review Shari A Not much about Meadow and AJ. Or Janice Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/09/24 Full Review Sal D Nostalgia aside, this two party documentary gave a very intriguing looking into the creative mind of David Chase, many of the actors and team that made The Sopranos so compelling to watch. Despite his telling insightfulness into character development, story development, directing, producing and show running, I now have this sense that Mr. Chase’s lens is quite distorted. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/09/24 Full Review Marc Z If you are like me and can't get enough of the Sopranos this is a really great two part documentary. This conversation with David Chase and the world of the hit HBO Show in the year of the 25th Anniversary is worth watching. There is great footage from the history of the show and a ton of behind the scenes footage from the making of it. There are conversations with HBO Executives, Cast Members, Writers, and people related to the show. I loved the audition footage. The documentary takes the viewer on the journey from concept to creation and more. This is a good documentary and doesn't suffer from the disease of being too long, which many documentaries do. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/08/24 Full Review Peter E A masterful, nostalgic reflection on one of the greatest television shows of all time. David Chase poured his soul into The Sopranos adding substance to the panoply of American art. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/08/24 Full Review Read all reviews
