Seven-time Emmy Award nominee Andrew Solt has directed and produced some of America's most noteworthy awards programs, music documentaries, and classic non-fiction television compilations. Solt began working as an associate producer and writer on the documentary series "The Explorers" in 1972 and would serve as a television producer for the rest of the decade working on shows like "Cousteau: Oasis in Space" and "Heroes of Rock and Roll" before gaining critical acclaim as writer and director of the documentary about the life and times of Elvis Presley entitled "This Is Elvis" in 1981. This would prove to be the real start of Solt's documentarian career; he would produce two more biography films in the 1980s with "Remembering Marilyn" and the chillingly nostalgic "Imagine: John Lennon." Although Solt would continue to direct various TV specials like the music documentary "History of Rock 'n' Roll" series and the "Ed Sullivan All-Star Comedy Special" during the 1990s, his focus grew more towards producing during the late 1990s and early 2000s, when he founded Andrew Solt Productions, specializing in special television work. Solt would executive produce such specials as the comedy "World's Funniest & Cleverest Commercials," "Things That Go Bump: Facing Our Fears," and the awards show "The 76th Annual Academy Awards" all throughout the 2000s and would continue to produce music compilations and special television ceremonies into the 2010s.
