Camelia Frieberg has been a presence in the independent film scene of her native Canada for over fifteen years. Beginning as an assistant director, she has also served in a variety of capacities ranging from location manager to associate producer on a number of films including Charles Burnett's "My Brother's Wedding" (1983) to the cross-cultural comedy "Masala" (1992). Frieberg wrote, directed and produced a well-received short documentary "Crossing the River" (1988), about a Salvadoran refugee living in Toronto and served as producer on Jeremy Podeswa's debut "Eclipse" (1994). But it is for her long association with Atom Egoyan that she is perhaps best-known. Frieberg worked in various capacities on several of the director's early films like "Next of Kin" (1984), "Family Viewing" (1987) and "Speaking Parts" (1989). By the time of "The Adjuster" (1992), she had risen to co-producer and she shared a Genie Award for Best Picture as a producer of "Exotica" (1994). More recently, she and Egoyan produced his acclaimed adaptation of Russell Banks' novel "The Sweet Hereafter" (1997), about the aftermath of a school bus accident in a rural community.
