Actor Christopher Abbott first grabbed the attention of audiences everywhere when he was cast as the sweet but troubled Charlie on the series "Girls" (HBO, 2012-17) in 2012. Originally born in Connecticut in 1986, Abbott grew up in the working-class Greenwich neighborhood of Chickahominy, where he worked at a video store while attending his first acting classes at Norwalk Community College. Before long, Abbott was hooked. He moved to New York and enrolled at the renowned Herbert Berghof Studio, where he studied his craft more intensely than ever. Abbott landed his first TV appearance in 2009, with a small role on an episode of "Nurse Jackie" (Showtime, 2009-2015). He followed this with an appearance on "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" (NBC, 2001-2011), before he was cast in his first feature film, "Martha Marcy May Marlene" (2011). The acclaimed movie offered a boost to Abbott's budding career, but nothing could prepare him for the success of "Girls," which he began appearing on the following year. He continued with the show for two seasons, before opting to leave the show-to the surprise of both producers and fans. He next appeared in a production of "Where We Were Born" at the Rattlestick Playwright's Theatre in New York in 2013, before moving on to a series of critically acclaimed film roles in "A Most Violent Year" (2014) and "James White" (2015).
