David Denman
Character actor David Denman played a wide variety of roles on television and in features in the late '90s and 2000s, including blue collar-minded Roy Anderson on "The Office" (NBC, 2005-2013) and a divorced dad on "Parenthood" (NBC, 2010-15). Born July 25, 1973 in Newport Beach, California, Denman relocated numerous times during his adolescence before eventually settling in Fountain Valley, California. There, he became involved in Fountain Valley High School's drama program, which sparked his interest in acting as a profession. After attending the summer training congress at the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco, Denman attended the Julliard School's Drama Division, from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1997. He found work on television almost immediately after graduation, making his screen debut in a 1997 episode of "ER" (NBC, 1994-2009). His feature film debut, as a deaf football player in the Keanu Reeves comedy "The Replacements," came in 2000. Denman divided his time between television and motion pictures for the next half-decade, logging roles in movies like Tim Burton's "Big Fish" (2003) and a recurring role on "Angel" (The WB, 1999-2004) as a demon determined to bring the all-powerful "Devourer" to Earth. Denman landed his breakout role in 2005 as Roy Anderson, one-time fiancée to Pam Beesly on "The Office." Initially portrayed as a sort of overgrown child in his early appearances, he takes Pam's rejection poorly, but appears to turn his life around by his final appearance in the show's ninth season, where he is depicted as both sensible and successful. Denman shared a 2007 Screen Actors Guild Award win for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy, while the exposure afforded by the popularity of "The Office" led to more substantial guest roles on series and in features, as well as a brief stint as a leading man on the Fox sitcom "Traffic Light" (2011). After landing supporting roles in the science fiction epic "After Earth" (2013) and the biopic "Jobs" (2013) as computer scientist and "Pong" designer Al Alcorn, Denman returned to series work with a recurring role on "Parenthood" as Ed, who has a brief relationship with Julia Braverman-Graham (Erika Christensen) during her separation from husband Joel (Sam Jaeger). In 2015, Denham was cast as a sniper in Michael Bay's "13 Hours," an action-drama about the 2012 terrorist attack on an American compound in Libya.
