Gary Carlos Cervantes

Character actor Gary "Carlos" Cervantes is known for his decades of television and film work, including parts in "Scarface," "Traffic," and "The Ring." His first role came in 1974, on the NBC sitcom "Chico and the Man," starring Freddie Prinze. Cervantes' film debut was in 1979 in "Boulevard Nights," which detailed the gang culture of East Los Angeles. The same year, he appeared in another Los Angeles-based gang film, "Walk Proud," in which he played a character named Carlos. Cervantes subsequently adopted the nickname for himself. He then acted in Steven Spielberg's 1979 war comedy "1941," starring Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi. A small part in Brian De Palma's crime classic "Scarface," with Al Pacino and Michelle Pfeiffer, soon followed. A few years later, in 1985, Cervantes played Diaz in the action hit "Commando," starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. Cervantes continued to appear on television in episodes of "Dallas," "The A-Team," "21 Jump Street," and in a recurring role on "Chicago Hope" beginning in 1995. In 2000, he was cast in "Traffic," Steven Soderbergh's exploration of the drug trade. He appeared in the horror hit "The Ring" in 2002 and the 2007 legal thriller "Fracture," with Anthony Hopkins and Ryan Gosling. Throughout his career, Cervantes has frequently made guest appearances on television series, including popular shows like the HBO sitcom "Curb Your Enthusiasm," the medical dramas "ER" and "Grey's Anatomy," and the soap opera "The Young and the Restless."
