Graham Moore was a screenwriter best known for adapting the screenplay for the award-winning "The Imitation Game" (2014). Moore was born in 1981 in Chicago, IL, growing up on the city's north side. He came from a family of lawyers and politicians; his stepfather was a judge, and his mother was at one point Michelle Obama's chief of staff. Moore attended Columbia University, where he studied religious history. After graduating, he pursued a career in the music industry as a sound engineer. One of his first writing jobs was on the television adaptation of the movie "10 Things I Hate About You" (ABC 2009-10). The show proved far less popular than the movie, and it was cancelled after one season. Moore said that TV comedy writing was not for him, and he was drawn to historical adaptations. He adapted the screenplay of the book Alan Turing: The Enigma into the script for "The Imitation Game," which starred Benedict Cumberbatch as the historical cryptanalyst. Moore's work on the script earned him multiple award show nominations for best adapted screenplay; his emotional acceptance speech at the 2015 Oscars after winning the Best Adapted Screenplay award went viral on social media. Moore also signed on to adapt the script for Erik Larson's non-fiction bestseller, "Devil In The White City," set in his native Chicago and starring Leonardo DiCaprio as an historical serial killer. In 2016, he published the historical novel The Last Days of Night.
