Micah Fowler
Micah Fowler drew upon his own experiences with cerebral palsy to play one of prime-time TV's most authentic major disabled characters in the ground-breaking sitcom "Speechless" (ABC, 2016- ). Born in Barnegat Township, NJ in 1998, Fowler first began acting in local theater productions with his older sister Kelsey, whose agent, Ellen Gilbert, also signed him after spotting him in the audience of "The View" (ABC, 1997- ). After appearing in the background of children's shows "Blue's Clues" (Nickelodeon, 1996-2006) and "Sesame Street" (PBS, 1969- ), Fowler made his first notable screen appearance aged 15 in "2 Lives: 2 Miles Apart" (2012), a documentary series highlighting the dreams and aspirations of children with disabilities around the world, and a year later landed his first major role as Brooke Smith's wheelchair-bound son Barry in Jason Reitman's melodrama "Labor Day" (2013). Fowler got his big break in 2016 when he was cast as JJ DiMeo, the high school student with cerebral palsy who forms a special bond with Cedric Yarbrough's aide, in "Speechless" (ABC, 2016-), which was immediately hailed as one of the most realistic, and funniest, depictions of special needs families ever committed to the small screen.
