Sergio Benítez Espinof A script that could be remade today and that, with the good ideas it brings, would give for a splendid film in the right hands. Nathan B Amazingly bad B movie staring many well established actors even at the time. The editing, camera work, sets and props scream low budget. No plot, man hijacks prisoner from bad guy, they go from small village to small village until bad guy finds them, they fight, people Die, the end. Only good points are the actors doing what they could. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 09/29/24 Full Review Blu B Horrifically Bad. The editing is really bad here and the pacing is just bizarre/surreal. Yeah it stays focused on Paxton for the most part but it just feels like either ideas/characters aren't properly introduced and are severely rushed. It feels like at times there are chunks of things that are missing or we just skip over with no real flow at all. On top of that it feels like it alternates with just weird out of left field stuff keeps happening that makes no sense and doesn't follow logic at all. The other culprit is this is the cinematography is just terrible. The lighting is off at times, the camerawork/direction is super basic, and the BIGGEST problem is the locale/set designs have no style to them at all and I swear half the scenes are ripping off other Sci-Fi films idea wise or look wise. There are times this looks like Blade Runner, The Wicker Man, Escape From New York, Mad Max, and other times I don't even know. The sets feel like they are from completely different worlds/films and don't mesh at all in the slightest and aren't shot well on top of that. The acting is terrible as well which is bizarre given the talent you have here. Everyone is bad all around and the characters half the time don't make sense. Why does Paxton fall in love all of a sudden with the bounty hunter, Why is Peck a Alien rip off Android?, Why is Peck a healer? none of it makes sense, is explained well, or comes back to the overall plot. than the music is terrible as well. There is like a weird mix between 80's tunes and Cinematic music that is extremely over the top and I swear it's too loud half the time also. It doesn't mesh at all. And that really is the biggest problem here, nothing meshes at all in the slightest. Heck they keep talking about the slipstream and I know they explained it at first but I still have no idea how it relates to the story or what it even is. Skip This. It's a quirky sci-fi with echos of Mad Max, Dune, Blade Runner etc but with enough originality of its own to make it stand apart. It boasts an excellent cast, some lovely aerial photography, great cinematography, sweeping score and an interesting post man made natural disaster apocalypse based scenario. The dialogue can be a little clunky in places but the cast deliver it with conviction and whilst it's pacing means that it's not what you might call an action movie it all hangs together well in the main. The films poor performance at the box office effectively killed the British production company behind it, which was a shame as I believe that it deserved to do much better. A well made and unusual sci-fi that sadly never found its intended wider audience but makes an excellent cult curio for discerning sci-fi afficionados. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/29/24 Full Review Matthew D Well directed but not always very involving. Some scenes feel a little rushed and unfinished. Good acting and cinematography make it worth sitting through. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/26/21 Full Review Audience Member I understand why it was not everyone's cup of tea, but it has long been a favourite of mine, with an otherworldly feel to it. Great science fiction which I personally resonate with and really enjoy. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Read all reviews
