Jim Knipfel Den of Geek It turned out to be the last film made by both Naish and Chaney. Even if both actors made much better films, it's...um, it's still some kind of legacy, that's for damn sure. Matthew D It's every bit the cheesy monster flick that I was hoping for. Thank you Al Adamson and Troma for this campy good time. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/12/21 Full Review darin c The premise sounds good and the cover art is actually way better than the slow-paced , nonsensical movie. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member If you like 70's trashy horror films, then you will enjoy this. Others need not apply. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member One of Adamson's ridiculous patchwork monstrosities. He started out making a sequel to his biker hit "Satan's Sadists", but changed gears and ended up making a horror film with J. Carrol Naish and Lon Chaney, Jr. Remnants of the biker flick stuck around as Russ Tamblyn who wanders into the film every once and a while for no clear reason. When he couldn't sculpt a salable film out of the pieces, he threw Dracula and Frankenstein's monster into the mix and shot even more footage. The horror movie footage sits uncomfortably atop the biker movie footage, and Dracula and Frankenstein sit uncomfortably atop the horror film. None of it really makes much sense. Dracula is played by Adamson's stockbroker, who reminds me a bit of Frank Zappa. The Frankenstein monster looks like a big dude with clay stuck on his face. Naish and Chaney both look like they are on the verge of dying any second. Future schlock director Greydon Clark shows up as a hippie. Mrs Adamson Regina Carroi gets dosed with acid and freaks out. This all sounds very entertaining, but it's somehow not ... until the climactic titular fight where Dracula tears Frankenstein's arms off. That was entertaining. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member Amateurishly made cheapie horror film about Count Dracula working with a wheelchair bound mad scientist to bring Frankenstein's monster back to life. Lon Chaney Jr. plays a mute half-wit, what is sadly his last film role. Besides this being a weak script and story, the film is even more bizarre because this film was originally planned as a sequel to the biker film "Satan's Sadists" but at some point the producers decided to make this a horror film, which explains why Russ Tamblyn and his biker game seem to inexplicably show up at random times for no reason other than to pad the running time of the film. The film also tries to be knowingly humorous, but the film is just so poorly made, it just coms off as even worse. This made me appreciate the tone that Jack Hill is often able to strike in his knowingly campy exploitation films like "Spider Baby" or "The Big Doll House," which are fully aware of their campy and ridiculous nature, but at the same time do it with enough of a straight face and are competently crafted enough so that they don't come off as poorly skilled filmmakers and actors trying to make a poorly filmed and acted exploitation film, which is what this film comes off as. Move along. Not much to see here. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Oh, so much fun. Where do I start? The horrid musical number featuring a talentless but very well endowed Carrol? How about the clicking dentures of Naish (the gnashing of Naish)? The porridge makeup for the monster? The worst ever Dracula. Lon Chaney too drunk to utter a single word? Add inept film making on top of that and some wasted roles by decent performers and you've got this A++ shlock fest.
