Rob V One of the best iterations of A Christmas Carol that I’ve seen, and there are a lot of them. Patrick Stewart makes this one excellent. His live, one-man show of A Christmas Carol sets him up for greatness in this movie-version made by Turner Network Television. The supporting cast are fantastic as well, and the pace is great — the scenes with Scrooge and Belle as youths don’t drag on like they do in most versions. Would Charles Dickens appreciate this one? Who knows? I don’t really care. I like it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/17/24 Full Review Richard K Short of live theater, this is the absolutely best adaptation of the Charles Dicken's classic that combines outstanding direction, costumes, staging, and effects with an absolutely brilliant performance by Patrick Stewart superbly supported by the rest of the cast. Not only do the wit and humor of Dicken's old English finally come through with sparkling clarity and depth of meaning for us modern speakers, but the ease with which Scrooge, Marley, and the various ghosts and others provide a real, palpable, and relatable experience that effectively transports the viewer to that very same time and place for a Christmas experience like no other! Definitely a must-see for any fan of Dickens and any lover of Christmas! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/27/23 Full Review James E Patrick Stewart delivers a stellar performance in one of the best renditions of this movie. Heartbreaking and heartwarming all at once. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/24/23 Full Review john r Not bad by any means, but nothing about it stands out either. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 12/21/23 Full Review Tim O We watch half a dozen 'ACC' variants every holiday: Our personal ranking would be: Simms (Scrooge 1953), Patrick Stewart (1999), Albert Finney (1970) and Geo. C Scott (1984), though it's a tough ordering, could vary a place or two year over year. The 1937 Reginald Owen is fairly good as well, messes a bit more with the details, but has it's share of memorable takes. The more recent stuff, is pretty disposable. (excepting Scrooged, of course). Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/18/23 Full Review Enigma N I loved the book and I've read it multiple times, I am a big sci-fi geek and certainly not anti-Stewart. I prefer the George C. Scott version. They are both Hallmark productions. Stewart's version feels recycyled. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/30/23 Full Review Read all reviews
