Nina Darnton New York Times The film is plagued by too many long, dead moments in which the story doesn't seem to be getting anywhere and attention wanders. Rated: 2.5/5 May 21, 2003 Full Review Dave Kehr Chicago Reader Another ethnic group -- Cajuns, this time -- suffers the patronizing ministrations of the American Independent Cinema. Oct 16, 2001 Full Review Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times Belizaire has personality and quiet charm and a lot of affection, mixed in with the more predictable action elements. Rated: 3/4 Jan 1, 2000 Full Review TV Guide Unique and flavorable slice of life. steve d Drags at times but Assante is great. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member I enjoyed it mainly because of the Cajun music. I looked at the credits to find out who played the music and at that time (late 1980's) I attended a Cajun Bluegrass concert and met Michael Doucet the musician and had him sign a vinyl from the movie. I still love Cajun music and the movie was better for it. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Audience Member I love this film! It evokes a haunting sense of time and place, and recalls an American sub-culture which has largely vanished as assimilation has inevitably progressed. But I long for it--it calls to me! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Without a doubt among the top ten motion pictures named "Belizaire the Cajun" that Madame used to screen for her students at EDW. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member I'm saddened that this is so obscure. C'est Bon! It's the most accurate protrayal of Cajun culture (of which my family belongs to) that I've seen, and the story is a little bit of everything: drama, comedy, romance, action. If you're interested, let me know...I think my family owns the one of two copies on this earth, apparently. haha Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Sentimental attachment. My dad is in it. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Read all reviews
