What to Know

Critics Consensus

Nick Frost and Chris O'Dowd remain as undeniably likable as ever, but Cuban Fury saddles them with a contrived and predictable plot that's far too short on laughs.

Amy Nicholson L.A. Weekly As progressive as it might feel for fat guys, losers and salsa stalwarts, it's rotten for women Rated: C- Apr 21, 2014 Full Review Wesley Morris Grantland It's not a bad gimmick, but the movie turns tediously sentimental fast. Apr 17, 2014 Full Review Steve Davis Austin Chronicle What Frost lacks in grace on the ballroom floor -- and he's not bad, mind you -- is more than compensated for by the joyful expression on his face when he's tripping the light fantastic Rated: 2.5/5 Apr 17, 2014 Full Review Leigh Paatsch Herald Sun (Australia) An efficient enough British crowd-pleaser, spicing up a sit-commy dish with a sublime side-serving of salsa dancing. Rated: 2.5/5 Aug 30, 2019 Full Review Sophie WIng One Room With A View As shiny-but-ultimately-flimsy as a rhinestone-studded silk shirt, Cuban Fury is such great fun that you just won't care; it's genuinely laugh-out-loud from start to finish. Janice W I like this great movie!! Thanks!!! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/07/23 Full Review shing ching w "CUBAN FURY is a hilarious and heartwarming film that will have you dancing in your seat. Nick Frost delivers a fantastic performance as a former salsa prodigy who rediscovers his passion for dance. The film is a perfect blend of comedy and romance, and it celebrates the power of following your dreams. Highly recommended for those who love a good underdog story with a lot of laughs." Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/07/23 Full Review Cole L Fun and enjoyable film that delivers on its promise of a lighthearted romantic comedy. The film showcases some impressive salsa dance routines, and the chemistry between Nick Frost and Rashida Jones is charming and endearing. "Cuban Fury" is a romantic comedy film released in 2014, directed by James Griffiths and starring Nick Frost, Rashida Jones, and Chris O'Dowd. The film follows the story of Bruce Garrett, a former salsa dancer who has given up his passion due to a traumatic experience in his teenage years. He then meets his new boss, Julia, who reignites his love for salsa and helps him overcome his fears. Overall, "Cuban Fury" is a fun and enjoyable film that delivers on its promise of a lighthearted romantic comedy. The film showcases some impressive salsa dance routines, and the chemistry between Nick Frost and Rashida Jones is charming and endearing. Chris O'Dowd also delivers a hilarious performance as Bruce's rival. However, the film does suffer from some predictable plot points and stereotypical characters. The script relies heavily on clichés and familiar tropes, which can make the story feel formulaic at times. Additionally, some of the jokes fall flat and feel forced. Despite its flaws, "Cuban Fury" is still an entertaining film that offers a feel-good experience with some impressive dance sequences. It's a fun movie to watch with friends or a date night, and it's worth checking out if you're a fan of romantic comedies or salsa dancing. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/07/23 Full Review Wong H I like this movie since it is so romantic Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/17/23 Full Review Audience Member We loved this movie! It was hilariously funny. I've not laughed this much at a movie for a long time. My teenage kids also enjoyed it which can be tricky to find a film we all like to watch. Best part was the still Fanta joke - so unexpected, random, and then the film just got even funnier from that moment on! Would recommend. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member i just rewatched it after a few years and i mean, it's not the greatest coming-of-age movie, but it is sorta entertaining; the struggles between mother and daughter are very real that even i have gone through most of that stuff. it was nice seeing miley play a different role from the other ones she had done before.
