When I was young. I always watching Deadful Melody on the pay TV channel, traditional, fighting, old Hong Kong style funning! Really Enjoy it. ( Taiwanese Born 1990 ) Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/02/22 Full Review Audience Member "If you like Chinese cinema action at its most hyperbolic, Deadful Melody will provide as many plasma-arcing explosions as you could ever want. And it's always easy to delight in Brigette Lin looking entrancingly murderous." This zither (lyre in the subtitles) makes people explode! Add Biao, Lin, Carina and Ma Wu and you have an early 90's classic. If you thought the zither (zheng) in Kung Fu Hustle was pretty cool, check this one out, the primitive visual effects are endearing. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Brigitte Lin can't possibly be human. She's much too scary and way too cool, in an otherwise average and unremarkable martial arts film. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Despite Dreadful Melody had received a mixed reviews from other sites,it's actually a good movie to me.It's like "Chinese Ghost Story" combine with "Swordmen 2".The storyline is still the same, revenge story and with some drama. It barely has cool fights like the style of Lau Kar Leung or Yuen Woo Ping, but the quick-editing save it.It made the actions more entertaining and exciting, like what I had seen in "Swordmen 2".I think Yuen Biao is not fit to play Brigitte Lin's brother because he looks older than her.Not a true masterpiece yet the overall movie is very enjoyable so I gave it Five Stars.Favorite.:) Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member One of the dozen ancient wire-fu flicks in the early 1990s using Brigitte Lin as tout after the success of < Swordsman II >- Lin appears no more than 1/3 frame time in the whole; & just keeps striking cool pose & delivering that typical cool face in that 1/3 frame time, as seen in her other dozen films in the same genre. Fair in general but very raw at the same time, which is one common feature of Hong Kong Cinema in the last two decades in last century. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member If this movie had a bigger budget it would have probably been considered better than "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon". If I thought I was in love with Brigitte Lin, after watching "Deadful Melody" I KNEW I was in love with her. Okay, maybe it's not as great as I'm making it out to be, but when me and my room-mate watched it (2 jaded and reserved men) we were acting like jocks at the Superbowl.
