      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Relying on flat humor and a preposterous plot, Deck the Halls is an unnecessarily mean-spirited holiday movie that does little to put viewers in a holiday mood.

Nathan B It's bad but it's not that bad. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/14/24 Full Review Joseph W. B Great cast. And yet, it's challenging to watch all 90 minutes. Who wrote this? Rated 2 out of 5 stars 12/11/23 Full Review Joe C God movie, rotten tomatoes is dumb for giving a bad review. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/09/23 Full Review matthias s "Deck the Halls" dances through Christmas lights and neighborly disputes with the charismatic duo of Danny DeVito and Matthew Broderick, striking a chord of nostalgia for many. It's a joyful, albeit somewhat formulaic, ride into the holiday season. The clash between the uptight and the unconventional is a familiar trope, yet the yuletide spirit and the extraterrestrial glimmer of Christmas lights add a twinkling charm to the narrative. Sure, it's a bit predictable, but that predictability is wrapped in tinsel and goodwill, making it a delightful guilty pleasure. The film might not be a non-stop laugh riot, but it delivers its fair share of chuckles and heartfelt moments, wrapping you in the warm embrace of festive cheer. For those seeking a snug blanket of Christmas vibes with a dash of DeVito's signature charm and Broderick's affable nature, "Deck the Halls" is a cozy, familiar treat a classic Christmas tale dusted with a sprinkle of nostalgia. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/06/23 Full Review Blu B Most of the time it's terrible but the end it does settle down with the nonsense and just outright stupidity and become a stock holiday happy ending so it does help. That being said, even with that everything about it is subpar including terrible music somehow. Mix in stock holiday and cinematic scores with hip hop, soul, and rock christmas tracks which do not go together at all and it becomes a complete mess. It feels like stuff just happens when the neighbors move in including a stupid plot of seeng his house from space. It abandons that for a "heartwarming" movie at the end out of nowhere. Add on terrible out of place humor, boring side characters, and just dumb visual gags and you see why this isn't that good. Skip This and watch one of the better holiday films referenced in the film. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 12/04/23 Full Review Nick S Nowhere near as bad as the critics say it is. Do yourself a favor...watch movies like this, and ignore the "professionals " Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/28/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Joshua Land Time Out Laden with false climaxes, the overstuffed plot leaves you exhausted well before the movie ends, and the amiable actors sleepwalk through their uninspired roles. Rated: 2/6 Apr 14, 2007 Full Review Josh Rosenblatt Austin Chronicle What's interesting about typical Hollywood Christmas movies is that regardless of how crass, vulgar, or mean-spirited they may be, by the last scene they will inevitably try to wrap viewers in a blanket of warm seasonal cheer.
