When Jim Mallory (Johnny Mack Brown) returns to his Texas home after serving in the Civil War, he is shocked to find that his father, Col. Mallory (William Farnum), has started a militia that refuses to adhere to the government's rulings on land ownership, essentially forming its own republic. Jim and his friend "Happy" Snodgrass (Fuzzy Knight) rescue newspaperman Jonathan Taylor (Pat O'Malley) from the colonel's thugs and, joined by Taylor's daughter (Jennifer Holt), begin to fight back.
